Coolant Type

I got a “coolant low” warning earlier today. Initially I thought it was just because I was parked on a slope, as the warning disappeared after a stop and a restart on the level. However it has subsequently reappeared later on for my return journey.

When I looked in the manual it says to refer to your service centre for advice on the correct coolant additives, which doesn’t seem too helpful.

Is there any special coolant that I should use or can I just pop down to Halfords and get some generic stuff?

No you must use a specific class of coolant often referred to as G48…

Thanks B21, much appreciated.

Any idea if I am likely find a suitable version of this at Halfords, or do I need to go to a dealer?

Most motor factors should stock it..the BASF version is widely stocked..just be aware of the ready made to use versus concentre versions

The spec is what matters ..G48..used in almost all BMWs upto the F series..
