( Typed up Saturday night but forgot to post )
After sorting out the many issues with my Z4 I was having a blast, told everyone and anyone about the drive on the 2.5si.
A friend of mine just brought one about a week ago, Lovely black 2.5i 2006 with 107k on the clock and hardtop.
Decided to go for a motorway cruise
(Saturday)Checked all fluids before hand. All was good. After around 15 miles. The friend notices the coolant light is on and pulls into the next services. No overheating, no leakes. Let her cool and inspect the coolant...it’s fine. Lost a little bit through trying to open whilst hot. Top up and carry on.
Back on our drive. I’m driving now, the coolant light didn’t come on after restarting. After like 30/45min of driving the light comes on again but goes off within a min. I notice heat coming from the engine bay into the cockpit ( is this normal?). Iv not noticed this heat in my own car..
Pop the hood, no sign of overheating but it did feel a bit hotter than it should. You could touch most parts without needing a skin graft. Though I wouldnt dare touch the exhaust manifold. The hottest part was the oil filter housing. The temp gauge was fine.
Found a local garrage and paid £20 for a palm reading, he got the following code after a long time searching. It’s related to waterpump in limp mode? Code 2e83. The actual water pump was working. As the mechanic had never worked on a Z4 before he wasn’t to sure of any faults.
The friend is distraught, thinks he’s been mugged off. Tried calling the previous owner. He’s taking the car to BMW on Monday morning
