Coolant Question

Sorry if this is a silly question. The coolant light popped on for the first time ever. It only came on briefly then switched off. This happened a couple of times on a journey so kept a good eye on the temperature gauge.

Got back checked the hand book and it says top up without delay. Can it be topped up with a small amount of water until I get the chance to get the proper coolant?

The light only popped on for a bit, if it was critically low wouldn’t the light stay in all the time? Or am I dicing with death?

AFAIK there were two different colours of coolant used in the Z4's.

Contact the local dealer or Indy garage and get the BMW coolant from them based on the colour of the coolant in the engine at the moment.

I'd also be checking for any leaks as a drop in coolant is never a good sign. Could be something simple or something serious but best to get it checked.

If you mix the two different coolants a portal to hell opens up. You have been warned! :rofl:

Thanks for the advice Skelters, I’ve never had a coolant light come on before :)
