COOLANT LOW - PLEASE ADVISE

Hello

I have the S28i MSport 2.0 litre (14 plates - it is one year old)

I keep getting the "coolant low" warning pop up on the media unit.

Can anyone recommend the best coolant product to get? Please provide specifics.

I always get coolant from a dealer - guaranteed to be right one, and I think it costs about £15 for 1.5 litres. Looking at the bottle there are no specifics on it, it's just called anti-freeze and anti-corrosive for radiators. It's blue, and you mix it 1:1 with water. Make sure the engine is cold when you fill it up. Hope that helps - if you don't want to go to a dealer hopefully someone else can answer with alternates. Would've been better posted in the e89 section, but I'm sure one of the e89 owners will see this.

Does it not say in the manual what you should use?

The system should be closed, so if you keep getting the warning after refilling, you should be investigating why ASAP. If its low and you cant get a coolant, just use water for a minute. Don't let your engine overheat or you will damage it! Remember you will need to add some coolant at some point to have the correct concentration if you only add water.

BMW manuals - at least mine - are rubbish for telling you what fluids to put in our cars. They seem designed to send you back to the dealer...

But as others have said, and I should have... Take it to them for investigation anyway.

This car is under warranty, fully serviced and you should not need to top fluids up. Its either been incorrectly filled or there is a leak. Get the dealer to investigate and refill as required.
