Coolant loss

Anybody have any issues with gradual coolant loss on their E85?

Currently have an Alpina RS lux but it seems the floating stick tends to drop fairly quickly after a few runs to the min level. Never had the dash warning light come on, I presume there is one?

Yesterday I noticed that I have a wet floor and the main suspect is coolant. Checked the coolant tank and the stick wasn't floating at all.
Also never had a warning light come on. I'm probably going to my mechanic next week and sort out everything including new water pump since I don't want to take any risks.
Mine is 2004 M54B22.

If you can't find any leaks probably best to get the system pressure tested to see if that reveals any leaks.

The coolant tank can have a tiny hole and is slowly leaking. Common issue.
Also check for coolant residue to show signs of any leaks.

Coolant expansion tank, thermostat o ring or could be the sensor at bottom of tank. I had all three replaced as I couldn’t for the life of me see where I was losing coolant... it comes out as steam under pressure and when warm, so underneath the car was dry.

Got it all replaced bit by bit, it was expansion tank and coolant sensor o ring.

Not Z4 related, but on the wife's Golf we had very similar issues, car was fine for miles and miles then had low coolant. Topped up and same story. I couldn't for the life of me find any water or wet patches.

Got it pressure tested and it turned out it was a join between the hose to the expansion bottle. It was leaking slightly under pressure. I put on a new clip, no help, new hose (which I had to make up with silicone as VW don't do that hose any more), no help, turns out the expansion bottle was deformed and cold no longer seal. Bought the wrong bottle, but when I fitted a new one, all was good.

Until Monday when the alternator packed in..

broken expansion tank, cheap as chips to buy, pain in the arse to get to seat on the bottom seal. remove the rad fans, makes it easier
