Coolant light

Car was serviced 2 weeks ago. Prior to that the coolant light would come on/ off intermittently. Since the top up it’s more of a common issue (daily).

It comes on and goes off on its own accord. Road conditions ie hills don’t seem to make no difference either. I can go round a roundabout and it comes on, go round the next roundabout and it goes off.

Drive within limits on, cane it off 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Would this be a sensor? Big job? Can’t imagine so by the location of the reservoir.

If it is a sensor whilst things have to be removed as preventative maintenance should I replace anything?

TIA

Hi mate,
First question. Are you actually using any coolant? Is the reservoir still full?
Second question, for anyone else reading this..... is the expansion tank the same on all models?
If the answer to question two is yes, then I think I may have a spare sensor, which is about 20 minutes work to change, mostly the faff of taking the undertray off.
If question 1 is no and question 2 is yes, then nip round to mine and we'll swap the sensor over as a first step.

Edit: Dammit, just realised I gave the sensor to Ratcatcher a while back. New sensors are pretty cheap though, so worth getting one and swapping it.

OK, I'm about most days except Tuesdays if you need any help.
The sensor is a bayonet (twist) fit into the bottom of the expansion tank. It sits in a sealed slot with a magnet on float surrounding it. So you can change it without losing any fluid at all.

Well the Garage confirmed no obvious leak and the float popped up as it should. Strangely no light today 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

I guess it is possible that the magnetic float stuck?
See how it goes. Offer still there to help if the garage is busy.

By the way, as discussed elsewhere, the float that sticks out the top has no link whatsoever to the low level sensor. It only shows the contents of the top 2/3 of the tank. So once it bottoms out there could still be 1/3 contents in the tank. Then there is a separate float in the bottom which moves up and down the tube that the sensor sits in. It has a magnet that operates a reed switch in the sensor. So even if the float you can see is moving freely it could still be the lower one or the sensor causing problems.
