Coolant Level Low

Hi all,

Just checking everything over in the car and found that the coolant level is low, not enough to bring any dash lights on but enough that it needs topping up. What's the best way to go about it as I don't have a BMW dealer nearby to supply the correct coolant. Should I just top it up a bit with some filtered water or wait and order some coolant?

Can I order coolant online and if so, what's the best stuff to get?

Thanks!

If it's just down a little, topping it off with water won't hurt things a bit. The minuscule loss in freeze and corrosion protection won't even be noticeable.

Ok, thanks - I'll top it up with some distilled water and then get some coolant. Do BMW do mail order? :?

Maybe I'll flush the water and refill with new stuff so it's all the same - I don't know what the last few owners have been putting in.

Just top it up with water.
If you've put a few litres in then you should put a splash of antifreeze in - get it from your local motor factor.

If you keep having to top it up you ought to get it checked for a small leak.

well, I topped it up with about 1/2 litre and now it's slightly over. The float got slightly stuck and I didn't realise before I had just overfilled it. Will the excess push through the cap when it heats up or can I bleed it off a touch?
