Coolant level E89 - should it ever need topping up?

Hi, me again, with my newly purchased 2015 E89 that I think I love - but not sure just yet, given the various problems lol !!!!!

Put simply, should the coolant level ever need topping up? The coolant light went on a week or so ago and my dealer topped it up. Obviously I'm slightly worried whether it could be something more serious. (My old 3-series E36 I don't think ever needed to be topped up in 20 years of ownership!!)

Does coolant need topping up every now and again?

Thanks in advance, Tony

No. It's a closed system. Possibly the previous owner changed coolant and didn't get all the air out of the system. When the air works it's way out it will leave with with a lower coolant level. If it goes low again, have it pressure tested.

+1

You can bleed the system yourself to ensure it’s fully purged..

As I've posted elsewhere, my 2010 35is has used between 4 and 5 litres of coolant - Comma Xstream G48 - in 70 miles.

Guidance for topping up is on page 198 of my handbook.

Isn't the coolant capacity of that engine approx 10 litres? So, you loose half your coolant in a 70 mile trip?

 But not now.

Typo apart, the N54 certainly doesn't have a closed coolant system.
