Coolant leak

Just checked my coolant and it's on minimum, im guessing I have a leak somewhere, are there any common weak spots to look for on these?

Expansion tank.

But.. with your comments about oil warning light etc... I'd suggest getting a compression test done to be 100% sure you've not got a serious issue hidden away in there somewhere.

I was quoted £39 for mine to be checked by a local indy.
 
Just had a look under the car and the bottom of the plastic tray is wet, so looks like there is a coolant leak and it's dripping onto the tray and then on the back of it, gonna take the tray off later

Took the tray off and it's the blue cap on the bottom of the expansion tank, I was able to tighten it so I did so and cleaned the tray up, better order a new one! qaqaba8y.jpg

There's 2 screw in plugs, one on bottom of rad and the other bottom of expansion tank

They're not cheap either. My mobile mechanic ordered one but they sent him the wrong one. The other weak spot is the expansion tank itself and the thermostat housing. BMW like to make lots of things out of plastic and charge the earth for them. So it makes good business sense to put a shed load of plastic in the cooling system.

I can't find the one in the rad itself yet tho?
 
You need a whole new expansion tank which costs about 80 quid from bmw.

Mine was leaking in the same place. I also had the thermostat leak.

In this pic im pretty sure the leak is coming from the plug #2, how ever that looks like it comes separate from the expansion tank, so I don't wanna buy a new expansion tank to find its not complete, can any clear this up?
