coolant fan

The continuing saga of my coolant overheating. Started out as a hairline crack in the expansion tank and after finally getting all that replaced, I do a pressure test of the radiator and hoses, and it holds at 15psi but was still overheating and found out the cap on the expansion tank was faulty so replaced it only to have the electric coolant fan just stop working! Ergo - still overheating! The few times I ran the engine before the fan would come on high and stop immediately upon turning the car off but now refuses to run at all (fan).
Any help would be appreciated since now that I have the top fixed it would be nice to drive it. Plus, I just sent in for my Collector Plates! :headbang:

Have you checked the condition of the green wire in the main connector to the fan

If that’s corroded it may be only partially connected and failing

Can't really help with a diagnosis but I just replaced my cooling fan because the bearing was noisy.
If you're close enough to central Scotland you're welcome to it to try it as a known working unit which would help eliminate the fan as faulty.

Are you referencing the thin green wire at the fan's plug? Backtrack the wire or check it at the fan motor?
You usually find it has corroded on the top where it disappears into the plug on the fan. A gentle wiggle will sometimes prove it's not actually connected any more!

Cleaned the contacts and applied dielectric grease to have no effect. Unable to get the circlip holding the motor on the housing to get to the actual board on the fan itself. Maybe try jamming a sail needle into where the green/black wire enters the plug to see if it will fix the problem! I may yet have to take it to a shop to get it fixed.

If you follow this tread, I believe you'll see a picture of the green wire & plug.
