Coolant decision

Been scratching my head recently, I need to get coolant in my car by means of a system flush, there seems to be just water in there
Has anybody a brand recommendation for me as I can't figure out what's meant to be in it.

Just did a coolant flush today.
Used the genuine stuff from the BMW dealer (Sytner)
Cheap as chips for 3 litres.
Don’t see any reason to try any other brand to save a few quid!

My dealer is a 26 mile round trip. My parts place ( with staff discount  ) is 3 miles round trip. Maths means Comma for me :D

What Dick Lovett ? Dont think they would deliver to a punter that hasnt been in there before :?
Let me know when BMW supply 3 litres of coolant for under £7 and I am there

Comma g48 is the oem stuff anyway. BMW don't make coolant, they just buy it and put a badge on the bottle.

Ha, the entire car is built using parts that BMW don’t make, there’s no news there. However, they do quality control the stuff with their name on so I’ll continue to ‘waste’ £4 every time I do a coolant flush. Peace of mind for a simple chap like myself :D

I agree, but the oem coolant is comma g48, so it makes no difference.

I use the bmw coolant myself, but will be using comma when it runs out as my nearest dealer is miles away.

When I last checked the specs there was a difference in the acceptable hardness of the water between OE and Comma G48, so I assumed they weren't the same. G48 is on the list of approved coolants though - which took me a while to find.

On the subject of water, do people use mineral water or tap water to fill up their tanks? I once mentioned using mineral water to a friend who laughed at me  so I assume tap water if perfectly fine to mix with the coolant?

I used distilled water when I built my westfield but used OAT coolant. With the Z4 needing about 200 ml top up from the water pump change by the previous owner , I used softened water , as was minimal with what was in there. Shouldnt make much difference , but the Westfield was a brand new car and I had 'borrowed' the distilled water from the fork lift water tank at work :o

The OE stuff says potable tap water is fine up to a hardness limit. You can check home supply limits online. Mineral could be worse!
