coolant color

What color is your (in particular 23i) coolant?? Thats pink isnt it for all bmw, and i recall some old mechanics said nvr mix green and pink coolant, is that correct....still??

And oh btw, is funny that i had this "coolant" icon pop up today, which i "think" is coolant level, but when i looked back my handbook to confirm, it doesnt have this icon!! I look backward forward handbook few times, it just doesnt hv this icon at all....... :cry:

I don't think color doesn't matter, for what I have heard you have to be sure the coolant is safe to use with aluminum.

Some months ago, I had the same coolant warning. I refilled my 30i with ~800cc.

First I was a little bit worried because I had some nasty and expensive cooling leakage issues in the past with a '99 Z3. The cooling system should be a "close system" what means, no fluid should escape. But after 3 years and 50.000 km’s, it seems to be normal for a N52 engine (according some forum posts about the N52 engine).
 
Been a few discussions about his on here - I just went to a dealer and got a litre and a half bottle (the smallest they do) for about £20 IIRC. Best way as you know it is the right stuff. It is blue - just checked.
 
Is it necessary to put the BMW's own in as for the aluminum or has anybody found a good similar product and how often should it be using it all up 2011 23i atacame yellow
 
Oops - just noticed this is the e89 section :oops:

However I stand by the 'just go to the dealer' ethos for something basic like this.
 
Agree I got some coolant just incase I had any need not expensive and it's the correct stuff
 
cool ! thanks you all ... read somewhere said nvr mix up those pink with green / blue thats all .. anyway... i got myself a bottle of BMW branded one .. so it should be fine .. but it just cost 2 X the other brand... mind free ...
