Coolant / anti freeze

I'm looking to flush and replace the coolant as I don't know what has been added prior to my ownership (tap water, different coolant mix etc).

Does anyone know if there is a standard code that I need to look for or should I just call BMW and buy the coolant? Is all BMW coolant the same?

Brought some the other day from BMW just to top up, just one kind, can't go wrong!
Is your service history a bit flaky then as if its been serviced by a main dealer/specialist they should have topped with the right stuff if it needed it, if at all. Supposed to last for the life of the engine so i wouldn't worry too much unless your missing history etc.

History is all there but from specialists and only oil services are in the service book.

I know it should last the life, just being over cautious I guess.

You say ot should last a lifetime

But very often, espically in bmw terms, a lifetime is the warenty period

+ on a ten year of old car you dont know if previouse owners have topped up between services for any reason with just water

I would disagree, if BMW felt the need to change coolant every two years like they used to they would as it's a good way to make more money.
