Converting automatic into manual

Hey guys, i wanted to know the progress of converting an automatic z4 to a manual one. What parts are supposed to change, what parts should be added.Car is 2003 2.5 btw. Thanks.

really? easiest and most cost effective solution is to sell the auto and buy the manual... pretty sure the cost, time and effort involved would be pretty ghastly

Second this, why bother?

If it's a project because you enjoy it and want to have a go then great. But don't expect it to work without fault and hassle.

If you want to just strip the box out and expect it to work go and buy a new car.

aye, its not going be anywhere near cost effective like
transmission, clutch, flywheels, linkages, pedals, cylinders , shaft god knows what else
and the labour on top which if you're asking this question i'm assuming you're not doing

i know very little but even then i know this is kinda crazy :D lol

To be fair anything is possible. Me and a friend have just mated a Lexus Automatic bell housing to 5 speed manual BMW gearbox. And bolted that to a Lexus v8 from an is400 and put it into a Toyota supra. But it takes a lot of work and hassle. And if you have the option. Sell and buy a manual .

The only time I might conceivably think about doing this is if the existing car had a failed box, under them circumstances it might me worth considering.
That said it would still be a lot cheaper/easier to bang a second hand auto box in the car and sell it to buy a manual!

Don't forget there are also many electronics involved, its not just the big mechanical bits. There is a miriade of parts to change/reprogram, not least the dash clocks.

All in all it would be a crazy undertaking

MM is right , I too have undertaken such projects as above , I converted two old land rovers , one old safari with a transit 2.5 Diesel engine , mated to the original drive train and an old series 2a with a 3 ltr V6 Essex engine from a Capri, I had to change the diff ratios and up rate the brakes because it would out drag an XR2 back in the day , but all this took a lot of time and energy and as with MM's efforts above you ended up with something that was completely different from how it was meant to be, what the OP is talking about is converting something that's readily available to something else that's readily available .....,,, doesn't really make sense to me , easier, cheaper and less labour intensive to sell and repurchase I suspect .
