Thanks Fred.

I was wondering how long it would be before I got a reaction - should have known I could rely on you!

I'll let you get back to your hat and sun-cream thread. :P

Sums up convertible ownership perfectly 👍

+1 :driving:

You get used to not bothering about what people think when the roof is down after a while. Who cares what everyone else thinks, you are having more fun than them :D

My car makes me 17.5% better looking too. I’ve never asked anyone, but I’ve seen the photos. This is not really an issue for me, more for everyone else :P

17.5%, are you sure :?

It could be more, but I’m a pretty modest guy, as you know

No one else ever notices the top is down. 8)

Just make sure there is a Lambo behind you.

I always wear a cap, - tighter than I would normally wear it! My wife is the same about 'posing' with the top down!

PS - has anyone ever lost a cap, or is it just an unnerving feeling you get when you speed up?

So looking forward to taxing my Roadster from Monday & getting some top down motoring done :driving: . I always wear a baseball cap in the sunny weather now though since I got a bit of heatstroke a couple of years ago  . Not sure how I'll get on as my hair is nearly down to my shoulders now. I've not had long hair since I was in my 20's :D , I've got a right mop going on now. Mrs OG said I'd got an Ed China hairstyle the other morning when I got out of bed :P .

Yes, plenty. I have a non-adjustable cheap hats that I bought in the US. It's tight and so far has done the job.

Old git or not, I tend to wear a baseball cap. Ive still got a reasonable thatch but its the sun in the eyes that gets me, the bigger peak helps.
The lockdown 12 week non haircut and a new white beard will make me look like an ageing hillbilly!

Am I bothered?

I’ve had convertibles for decades...From my experience:
Have a hat not only for yourself but keep an extra one in the car for a passenger.

Watch the weather and consider putting the top up when you plan on being indoors for a while...Sooner or later you will get rained on and end up frantically drying the inside of your car, hoping no electrical switches took a bath.

Don’t forget you have a heater and perhaps heated seats. These can keep you top down motoring when common sense tells you not to.

Depending on how hard it is raining and how fast you are driving, there are times that driving while it’s raining isn’t much of an issue, though I’ve found those times to be rare, they do happen.

You will find yourself using the air conditioning when it rains as some convertibles have no rain gutters above the windows and the rain comes right in when the windows are down. The Z3 suffered from that.

As for worrying about what other people think when I’m out and about...My mothers friend had the best saying for that. “You wouldn’t worry so much about what people think about you if you knew how little they did.”

Enjoy !

I got caught out leaving the roof down years ago when it rained - it seems to take much longer to put the roof on during a downpour!

At Least with a Smarttop module nobody could see me getting a soaking now.

My E30 convertible has a baseball cap, suncream, sunglasses, thinsulate beany hat and gloves on board at all times. Be prepared and go out and have fun.
