Hi all, I want to buy a BMW Z4 sDrive28i 2013 with 8-speed Steptronic and need to know if this model has Launch Control, someone with a known sDrive28i?
Since the new M135i have 8-speed Steptronic and if they bring Launch Control
Thank you very much.
Alan.

I think it's only the 35is in the E89 which has launch control.

The difference between the ///M135i and the 28i is one is a 3.0l, 6 cylinder, twin scroll and the other is a 2.0l, 4 cylinder twin scroll. Although both should be capable, the 28i is designed for good performance and economy. The ///M135i is designed for great performance and well economy isn't on the list. BMW will also want to ensure the engine doesn't blow up!

Are you trying to say that the 428i has it? If so look here http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=986481 and you will see that this is only on the 2014 onwards model F series. Your enquiry is about a E series Z4.

It 'may' be possible to code it as suggested on the link but I'm not sure.

Not sure about the 8 speed slush box but the 35i DCT and 35iS has launch control. I've never actually tried it on mine.

EDIT: I just downloaded the 28i manual from the US website, the only mention of launch control is as above, DCT equipped cars, not the 8 speed auto.

Launch control is absolutely worthless in the non-M BMW models since you can't specify the RPM for the launch.

It will just pin the revs at 5k and spin the tyres. Much faster to manually launch. I think with the slushbox you can hold it on the brakes in 2nd gear for the optimal launch but that isn't good for gearbox longevity.

A pal has it on a 330x d and I have to say it seemed to work very well.
No spinning wheels and launch seemed to be at a max torque level.

Having said that I can't see why or when I would use it!

Isn't a 330x 4 wheel drive so should launch well if done right.

Yes it's the 4wd version - the launch control was tremendous - I was very impressed by it but I can also understand the stress that the whole system must see.

When the car set off - I can only describe it as like an aircraft take off - just seemed like one great whooooooosh of power and acceleration. That coupled to an 8 speed box there just seemed no gap and the changes were not really noticed!
