Considering removing / wrapping front intakes

I saw that dipping job on TV... god knows what it would cost vs simple wrap though, and the wrap is un-doable.. guessing the dipping isn't. Great option for dipping alloys though, the carbon wheels on the RR Sport I saw on TV looked the dogs danglies.

I've been thinking exactly the same Maniac, I think the lower grilles being all silver looks crap. Its very old-hat.
I don't like all black though, looks like its trying too hard (and a bit too racy!)

At the watermill meet, I thought Z4-Gaz's car had the best lower grilles for a black Z4. Apparently they were standard, but rather than being all silver they had a black surround (part 4 in the above diagram) with the silver bit in the middle (part 5). Looked lovely, I will probably do mine the same when I get a chance.

I didn't realise until we after we bought our 35i that the front grills are different
Not sure of the previous owner had been modding ow whether it's standard.
I shortened the wasted white space on the number plate to get a more compact appearance.

You have the M-Sport bumper.

Plasti dip is the new in thing, its cheep, easier to remove than vinyl wrap and its a DIY job.

If your thinking about Plasti Dip watch 'Dip Your Car' on YouTube.

What about the Jaguar style steel mesh? I think the lower intakes look cheap and have wondered whether it would be possible to use the current intakes and as a template to fabricate them? Sounds like a job for machine monkey :)

Got round to doing this today

Before

After

Happy with the result, looks a bit more purposeful.

Opinions on doing the kidney surrounds in black as well, leaving the fins silver?

The black intake with silver horizontal bar is standard on 2.3 and 3.0 non M Sport. The 3.5 had a silver surround and horizontal bar to match with the silver grills.
Personally Maniac, I'd have a go at wrapping it as painting all the silver out looks a bit bland.

I'd rather not go single silver band as above, smaller engine cars have this stock. Still not sure what exactly I do want to do tho!

I guess the silver is now looking a little dated but wouldn't doing it all black end up looking just like the M Sport front?

Looks much improved :) I think the issue with full silver is when it's on a black car, stands out too much. Other colours don't look as obvious, so I think you've done the right thing. Being realistic I doubt many people are going to suddenly think you have a small engine due to the colour of the intakes :)

BTW that's not my car ;)

Not wishing to nit-pick, but I think you will find I have a bigger engine :poke:

30i = 2996cc
35i = 2979cc

Sorry yes I was commenting on jickolasnacksons one (did I get that user name right)? :)

I'd not actually noticed that they were a different colour on the 35is until pointed out in this thread to be honest.
