Considering a Cayman.

there you go carol when you are ready for an M you can do a swap with ruby ,.. everyone happy , until then enjoy the new Porsche, by the way definitely not a poor mans porche but built to fill a specific gap in the Stuttgart lineup, streets ahead of the other roadsters around, mx5, s2000, mr2 , mg but aimed at a less performance / price point market than 9 the 911.Carol M said:

It will feel much more of a sports car then a 35i , although a DCT 35si could not be ignored. The Zed will also feel more modern inside and have a awesome roofing system and is tbh hard to compare to a Cayman which is a drivers car in comparison . Are you sure about the DFI engine in the base cayman gen 2? I thought only the cayman S gen 2 had DFI? The current cayman (2013) both (base and S) have DFI.

Seems were both part right , it's fitted with new 9A1 architecture (as are the DFI motors), so you get a stronger platform with better oiling that does not suffer from RMS leaks and cylinder chunking. So not quite the full 3.4s dfi but pretty much

As mentioned above by Paza, the Cayman (and the Boxster) do outhandle the 911.

There were 700 limited worldwide , with 330 limited to the UK market cannot remember my run number now would need to check , awesome bit of kit
Considering the thread starter has £20k to play with, a Cayman R is well out of the question currently going for 40k! Lovely cars, I'd rather have the boxter spyder which is what I was supposed to be looking for but couldn't find one, stumbled across the new boxter s and didn't like the interior and ended up with a 35is instead.
For 20k, what about a nice XK coupe. More powerful, more distinctive and more revered.

After viewing the main contender yesterday I have reached the decision to continue my quest for a 35i.
The Cayman was a great car but certainly lacked refinement. I think the fact your practically sat on the engine didn't help it's cause nor did the fact I could fit my golf equipment in
It may seem to some very harsh ruling a car out because it didn't accommodate my golf equipment but this was a major consideration when I opted for my first Zed a few years ago....I ruled out my ex girlfriend for not accommodating golf too
Anyway thanks again...I still looking for a 35i if anyone wants to get rid of theirs

Under 20k, 35i, decent spec but manual. Not a M Sport but ticking some of the boxes and comes with a warranty and if no trade in I'm sure a deal can be had!

There's another one that I'm trying to beat up on price as it's £3k over budget.

Good luck with the search. Unfortunately finding one for your budget is going to take some time and as we head towards hopefully better weather the prices seem to be going slightly north. I'd stay well clear of that car if I was you, ceramic brakes are fitted when the original owner wanted to track the car a lot :thumbsdown:
