Three years after purchase I gather the free part of the deal ends and they want to charge £120 a year - I don't think I've really used mine to full benefit, so I was thinking of not renewing it.

My question is what's left in the system without paying the subscription and what have others done?
(I use my car as a March/October car and for holidays in Europe)

You lose the BMW online portal and all it's associated functions , google send to car, remote unlock and the concierge. Basically all the things that don't immediately work on the idrive when you start the car as those items are not enabled until it connects and checks what you're able to have.

I will renew mine, it's handy.

Never used mine (except for google send to car) so did not renew more than a year ago and have never missed it. IMHO the service is grossly over priced - especially the send to car and remote options that cost BMW the price of pressing a few buttons to enable the service.

The majority of the price is for the development costs, not the running of the system.
Otherwise GTA would have been £1 to buy the CD Case and printed inserts.

Oh, Sorry, BMW,
The majority of the price is for smarmy marketing people.

I've used info plus a fair bit. Much better than trying to enter post codes etc while driving....

However major fail at weekend, low pressure warning came on, phone info plus because I wanted to get hold of BMW roadside assistance, they told me to press the red button in roof, which dails 999 :headbang: So then tried the "Mobile Care" option which is roadside assitance i found out, they suggested to go to dealer but they couldn't send directions to car, so back to info plus who try to direct me to a delaer in manchester claming I was only 5 miles from them, even though I was on the M6 just north of birmingham and was therefore many miles over the 50 miles you can drive on run flats :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: then despite telling were I actually was and that I wanted to go to dealer on the way north rather than turning around, they finally send me direction back to birmingham. So gave up put some air in the tyre reset the monitor and booked it in at my local dealer for when I got back. Got away with that.

It's worth pointing out the initial 3 year subscription include roadside assistance which is over £100 from the AA if this is included in the £120 a year from BMW on renewal and isn't another extra then it's got to be worth it.....

Oh that also reminds me, emergency call (SOS) is part of the £120 I believe... No BMW assist means no SIM active in the car hence no services that make use of comms in the car.

AFAIK The £120 does not add roadside assistance. BMW Assist doesn't actually 'roadside' assist. They just call someone for you at your own expense if you don't have recovery as a separate thing from them, or included in your insured warranty.

The SOS is still active in my car even though the Connected Drive stuff is now expired.

I can't use any of the remote unlocking or "find my car" features, though. That said, I can't imagine when I'd ever want to use those.

Oh that's good to know then because online it says thats part of BMW assist... So on your iDrive I take it BMW Online/Info Plus etc is no longer available?
