Sorry if this has been asked before, to be honest I can't be ar$ed to do a search (honesty is the best policy)

I'm just looking at new insurance quotes and I usually get breakdown cover but it occurred to me that we have the BMW Online Assist in our cars (new ones). So does this mean we get breakdown cover from BMW? I'm not sure how it works and their web site doesn't explain much.

Should any difficulties arise, your location is automatically transmitted to the emergency or the breakdown service so that the right help arrives on the scene faster.

If you have iDrive, choose BMW Info from the services menu and speak with them for pricing and whats included. I have a bundle payment to cover warranty, recovery and Assist/Info/Online portal fees. Quite expensive, but then the features are better (SOS button, Auto SOS if you crash and are unconscious etc).
 
I got 3 years free online portal when I bought the car. If this means breakdown cover then I don't need it on my insurance policy. I'm hoping. Better go dig out the mounds of paperwork unless anyone else knows?
 
You get free recovery for 3 years on a new car. I'm outside that now, so I pay for BMW Assist (this is the communications facility, it does not do recovery), I also pay for Warranty and Recovery as a package.

You should not need recovery Carol. But if in any doubt, go to the car, use the BMW Services section to speak with BMW Assist (Info/etc) and they will clarify for you.
 
BMW assist does does cover breakdown , when I had battery issues with my previous Z4MC and it wouldnt start called them , man came out and tested then changed battery
 
Was this when you purchased the car new/AUC or via paid warranty? I think what you get on a new car or AUC differs from what you get after warranty expires.
