connected drive

So a little while ago i went to great lengths to transfer the BMW connected drive from the previous owner to myself, only to find its a much use as fart in a space suit. I have a 2012 e89 with idrive and the app does nothing. I understand BMW switched off the service to our older cars, but is there an upgrade to make the app useful again?

Same story here...got it registered in my name and told to visit dealer cos there was a problem adding it to the app.

Told the system is obsolete!

Absolutely crap. I think they suspect it’s because after 3 years it’s a paid service and if not many people were paying then they wouldn’t keep supporting it.

The trouble is that these apps are in a fast moving market that does not fit with car manufacturers design /build cycles..

So either stick your phone on the dash or live with the 2009 technology..

Life went down hill after they started using bipolar transistors rather than triodes...

Eeeeehhh, I remember t days when you get write a mission guidance system in assembler and still get change from 16k of ferrite core memory..

Connected drive is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. The only "IT thing" I use on mine is the Pro Nav - and even the Bluetooth on that is temperamental with the iPhone 8 Plus.
EDIT: Same as on my 535 too by the way. Absolute shite.....

It doesn't work that great on the newer cars either.
I'm supposed to be able to lock and unlock the doors on the G20. IF, it works it takes about 2 minutes, but more often than not it doesn't.
Apparently you should also be able to send places from the app to the sat nav in the car, not got that to work yet!
Only useful thing so far is it tells me where i left it and will plan a route back to it, helps in your old age!
