Confusion with Z4 maintenance schedule

Hi to everyone,

I just bought a 2003 2.5i with 6500km on it. The manual says normal maintenance is necessary only when the indicator lights on the instrument panel go on, and that the oil should be changed every two years. The service people at the dealership told me, however, that oil should be changed every year, and that an "inspection" is to be carried out every 2 years regardless of mileage and even if the indicators are not lit up. Do I follow the manual or the dealership people?

Some advice from other Z4 owners on this will be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

It's a combination of both.

You have to follow the schedule indicated by the computer, UNLESS you don't drive it a lot, and then you follow the time-based schedule instead.

It's normally written as 'every 15,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes sooner' - and some (not the Z4) cars have the option to turn the onboard schedule to time-based if you know you're only doing small mileages.

I was wondering the same thing. I have 7000 miles showing to the next service, whereas the last service was done in March 2007.

Oil efficiency deteriorates over time, and ?good policy to change annually regardless of service indicator.Inexpensive when compared to cost of poorly engine!

Hi there, new to the boards. I bought a Z4 coupe back in Dec with 10k on clock and the dealer seemed to indicate I should get a service at 15k miles. when I turn the car on the inspection mileage is showing 13k whilst I have driven 13k now. Does the number the car tells you mean you should get an inspection when you are on the mileage i.e. now, or i dont need an inspection for another 13k miles? Not quite clear what I need, so any help appreciated.

Also having the other week needed a new tyre the dealer mentioned tyre insurance which WASNT offered at point of purchase, can I get it added now?

When I bought the car from the BM Dealer he stated the next service will be at 13000 miles, I have now done 10000, so as soon as it hits the 13000 it will go in for a service.

It should tell you how many miles to the next service, my Z4MR is showing 12k to the next service (i've done 13k in total, its had the oil service so Inspection 1 is 12k away).

bope, is your Z4 a 3.0Si or an M?

Duckson,
Its a Si. Thanks for clearing it up as distance to the next service. The reason I was confused it that I thought it was 15k or 2 years, but maybe as I bought it from approved it had a service done then that reset the clock. Anyway thanks again.
