confused

I owned a harley and sold it recently and my insurer was with bikesure, when I phoned them they told me they could get me a quote if I bought a Z4 and still retain my bonus, to which I asked them to quote on a BMW Z4 2.5 not only was it very highly-priced, they then placed me over to another one of their other agents who then said, the bonus acquired on the Bike cannot be passed over to a car, when I asked them who the insurer quote was from they told me it was Adrian Flux , I then phoned my car insurance to which I have a car with max NCB on it with and they can add a third car and give all my NCB on that two, but what confuses is this is the second times I asked AF for a quote and it aways seems too steep?

[ref]mikenico[/ref], I’m with AF, my precious insurer wouldn’t cover my remap whereas AF would with just a £35 uplift :driving:

Renewal due in July so we’ll see :tumbleweed:

If you think that's bad, I asked my insurer (also AF) for a quote when I was considering buying an e34 M5 to replace my modified Corrado VR6.

There was £50 in it, so didn't concern me at all.

A week later I was I'd flown to Inverness to view a car and agreed to buy it there & then (it was a bargain and it was only the location that I think put people off). So I called AF to swap the policy over (Corrado was going into storage until it was sold) and they told me that they wouldn't cover me on that vehicle (due to the Liverpool postcode). No amount of pleading would get them to believe I'd already had a quote (sitting at home stupidly).

Risked driving it the 6 hours home, and started calling around the next day. Ultimately ended up paying about the same price as for the Corrado, but it was almost a week before I'd finished calling & comparing...remember there was no simple web-based comparison sites in those days - just a phone and performance car magazines.

Its all a numbers/statistics/risk analysis game to them. Always shop around. I moved house and the AA wanted to increase my premium by just over £1k on a 2011 Focus! Ten minutes on the internet got it back to less than the original £300 or so with another company.
When I got the Z4 i got an online quote then rang them to check how it worked with two cars - they quoted almost double the online quote and when I queered this they agreed to "do me a special deal" and honor the online quote!

What I have always hated is that most of the time you have to build up seperate no claims for each vehicle that you own but if you have an accident in one of the vehicles they take some of your no claims from all your policies on renewal.
So if I had an accident on the bike my car insurance would also be affected even though the no claims had been built up seperately.

I didn’t think it was the no claims discount that reduced on a second vehicle but the premium increases because you are a greater risk, unless it’s with multi car cover on a single policy Where you would only have one set of no claims discount

Im not 100% sure whether its no claims you lose or a premium hike and have been lucky not to have been in many accidents to find out.
For instance between my wife and I we have 4 separate insurance policies for different vehicles.
As we are insured for each others vehicles if one of us has an accident ALL insurance companies must be notified and your insurance premium can go up for all policies.
I also dont think that because you have had an accident that you are a greater risk in the future, it may make people drive better after an accident and surely the odds of the same person having another accident soon is lower than it was to start with.

They work on statistics and probability - if you've had an accident you are by definition a bad risk :-)

In the US they were analyzing the probability of someone having a gun on a plane. They worked out the figure at lets say one in a million. They did it again for the chances of two guns being on a plane and came out with a figure of one in five million. They therefore decided to carry a gun on every flight as it massively reduced the chances of someone else having a gun!

Jeez! Seriously?
Reminds me of Blackadder Goes Forth. Baldrick carried a bullet with his name on it, thinking if he had it, he couldn't get shot!

What annoys me is a non fault accident/claim will also increase the insurance premium, someone reverses into you, you have all he hassle of the repair, possible reduction in price when selling at a later date and when you come to renew the premium goes up a few hundred pounds :headbang:
