Confused.

There is a vendor on eBay that's selling a piano black dash trim set for a Z4. All components have a sticker on the reverse side stating that they are OEM BMW parts and for a RHD vehicle. Everything seems to check out (including the fascia section) , apart from the centre trim piece that fits around the ashtray and gear lever. (see picture ) The "sport button" hole is on the wrong side , I've contacted the vendor but he is adamant that the hole is in the correct place as it is from a "2007 facelift" . Now , am I going nuts here or were there certain models that had the sport button situated on the left side of the gear lever (?) or is he full of sh** :? :? :? Picture might be reversed?

Good point , never thought of that. . It doesn't make sense that the rest of the components are correct , and with oem BMW labels . You could be right . I'll keep investigating :driving:

1. The centre console is the only component that doesn't have a sticker specifically mentioning it is for RHD vehicle.

2. The sticker states "no hole"

If you look at the bottom of the moulding, it looks like the button holes are inherently moulded into all variants (making it a universal part), but as indents only, with no through-holes. On this particular part, it looks like someone has subsequently drilled out the hole on the left hand side. The hole does not look clean enough to have been done professionally/in the factory.

Yes thank you , well spotted ! so it's knackered then. :driving:

You could drill your own hole on the right side for your sport button.

That would obviously leave a hole on the left, but perhaps you can source a button blanking plate for this? Or some of the other commenters suggest they have an airbag indicator light here... are you sure your car doesn't?

Alternatively, you might be able to relocate the sport button to the left, if the wiring allows and you don't mind it being on the "wrong" side.

Isn't there a cover that says airbag on the passenger side where the hole would be?

Just had a look. There is no airbag light and no blanking cover either . Just had a thought though , mine is an e86 not e85 . Maybe they are different , I automatically assumed that they were the same (?) :driving:

Here is my face lift E86 which shows the buttons and a dirty Piano Black trim. On the left passenger airbag on the right sport button.
Hope this helps.

That's the same as mine although without the fingerprints, tin roof and the hatchback!

Perhaps the airbag thing and the sport button can be swapped over.

Believe the airbag switch only came in on those built mid 2007 onwards

Yes.

Mine is a Sept 2006 model and doesn’t have the isofix bar in the seat, nor the airbag deactivation switch, or the airbag light.

Yeah maybe that's it......mine was registered in March '07 . Definitely no provision for an air bag button. Just a solid aluminium surface. Oh well , looked like a good buy in good condition. :driving: P/S what is Isofix ?

You're also missing the buttons for the roof. I'd get that looked at as a matter of urgency!
