Confused about my headlights

After looking on here guys I learned that if your car had the headlight level switch in the car it meant you did not have Xenons.

Tonight I was looking at my headlight units themselves and on the front of them it lists the dipped beam bulb as a D2S H7 bulb. If I am not mistaken is that not a bulb that comes in Xenon headlamps? The main beam is an H7 bulb apparently.

Is there any noticeable difference when looking at Xenon and non Xenon units?
 
I will Stand corrected if someone else says otherwise but as far as I know the light cluster is the same regardless of whether you have xenons or halogens!

if you have white-ish colour dipped beam xenon, if it's yellow it's halogen.
In engine bay if you have xenons there is norm a sticker giving an electrocution warning above cluster
 
That's all what I thought Ste. The dipped beam isn't as white as I would expect from a Xenon, but I definitely wouldn't call it yellow, nowhere near as yellow as the other halogen headlight cars at the house. Also no electrocution warning.

The D2S H7 on the headlamp unit just threw me a bit.
 
Headlight units are different between halogen and xenon. Somebody has probably fitted an after market kit.
 
Quick check to confirm if you have Xenons;

Xenon fit came with headlamp washers (mandatory across Europe)
No levelling dial near the light switch with Xenons as they self level (you can see them do this when you first switch on)
High voltage warning sticker at each headlamp cluster
 
Did a decode on the VIN this morning Dan and it mentions nothing about Xenons, I can only assume that the headlight units on the car have been upgraded then, with the whole DS2 H7 thing written on them.

Alan, I have the levelling switch in the car, so I had always dismissed the car as not having Xenons, it was only when I read the headlamp units last night that I began to wonder had they been changed.
 
If the headlights move when you adjust the levelling wheel, they're halogen. I swapped my halogens for xenons and now that doesn't work...
 
Great answer Liam! The switch does indeed still work so they must be halogen. BMW must just stamp the Xenon bulb type on a range of headlamp units.

How much did your Xenon switch over cost you in total? What about the auto leveller?
 
IIRC H7 and D2S are different bulb types. If you don't want to go to the expense of HID bulbs, you can get traditional bulbs with xenon gas as opposed to halogen and also order different colour temperatures to get the blue hue

Renault used to market their top end Laguna as having Xenon lights, they were just xenon filled filament bulbs the sneaky bunch
 
Right, different bulbs, and electrically and physically different. OEM bi-xenon assemblies have no H7 lamp, so has to be an aftermarket unit.
