Confused about centre switch panel plastic colours...

I recently fitted some M Sport heated seats to my 03 3.0i SE and need to retrofit the centre switch panel to enable use of the heating function. All of the options available seem to be listed here:

http://www.bmwpartscounter.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_product=629325&ukey_assembly=147598&assembly=113211

Now, my car is one of the early ones with mainly grey plastics and my current switch panel is grey with black buttons. I noticed that the part number I require from the above list (61316926959) is for cars up to 10/2004 but I'm certain black interior plastics were also around before then? Will this unit be grey with black buttons or black with black buttons?! Would appreciate some advice from those in the know as the only units to have come up on ebay recently were all black so will probably look a bit odd in my centre console. Thanks in advance!

Normally those lists show the colour, but I can't see it. I would let the dealer sort it our for you giving them the responsibility if they order the wrong one.

can't see a colour on realoem either :?

as srhutch suggests - Id let the dealer order the wrong one - their fault then.

As an alternative buy one with the right button configuration off ebay then figure out how to switch front facia trims, even if you have to do a bit of modding work to cut holes for the new buttons.

Bet these are pretty expensive at the stealers

One on ebay right now bid to £11.50 with a day to go. I know what I'd be doing

I'm all over that bad boy CJ, hence the question before the final bidding frenzy!

So, is what you're suggesting that I take the grey panel off my current unit, cut some holes for the seat switches and then swap it onto the 'new' one? I'd probably make a right balls up of it but one of the machinists at work could be tempted by a couple of beer tokens. :D

If you cocked it up just use the black one don't think it would to out of place, after all the light interior Z4's all have black panels.

Yep - that's what I'd do, but save the beer tokens and do it myself.

I have not taken mine apart, but know how BMW build things so they will have 2 or 3 designs of switch body and several trim finishes and then it's just a mix and match of parts for each car. all with a different part number.

Should most likely just be something that unclips, but that's a guess. good news is you have a template to work to.

Well, I appear to have won the item for a whole £15.50! Doubt I'll lose too much sleep even if I make a right hash of the front panel mods, hehe. Will update this thread with the results...

Good - for £15.50 you can afford to have a crack at it and see what you can do.

I would not be surprised if the mould marks for the holes you need to cut out are on the reverse of the balck face plate. They are for many things such as bumpers without washers and cowlings without cruise control, etc.
