Condition Based Servicing & Service Pack

Hello all,

New to this CBS and have been used to taking my old car in for annual services or every 20k miles.

Now, I just wanted to know how it worked exactly? Do I just sit back and let the car tell me when I need a service? i.e the countdown clock? I thought I recalled the next time I could book a service in was June 2015 by the dealer on the service pack but now that doesn't make any sense.

Last time it was serviced was in March for an oil change at 20k miles. It's now on c.22k miles.

Thanks for the help to this amateur question.

Hi, the servicing on your car will be as follows:

Brake Fluid every 2 years

Oil service every 2 years they will also replace the micro filter in this service.

At 4 years the car will need some type of inspection carried out by BMW which basically checks the whole car over and the recommend any work I.e. worn seats, tyre replacement etc. just the kinda stuff that they check mechanically when in for a service plus some more visual items to bring the car back up to new.

At 4 years oil service they will change the spark plugs, air filter & micro filter. They'll also check the car over and if anything else requires replacing then this will be done.

When was the last brake fluid change?

The servicing can be based on millage if you cover the amount it requires, if not then it's every 2 years. There is a countdown and if you have idrive you can see the dates there or if not you can toggle the OBC on the dash and that will give you the millage and date to the next service as well as when the brakes will need changed.

Ideally if your not doing the miles then it will be every 2 years so just check the book and add 2 years to the last date and that will be when you'll need a service

I did notice that the spark plugs and air filter is not the Idrive menu..

Are the plugs and air filter just changed every 4 years irrelevant of mileage?

Yeah they change them regardless of millage or age. The whole point of 'conditioning based servicing' is that they are meant to check and if they need replaced then they are to replace them.

I've had a garage trying to replace plugs that were only a month old and had been fitted 90 miles previously because they supposedly needed changed. The same plugs that they didn't change when they fitted new coils under a recall because they advised there was nothing wrong with them and it was only a few weeks previous.

They seem to want to change plugs very very early these days. Mine were changed at four years and 15,000 miles
I didn't complain as I have the five year service pack - but hey 15,000 miles????
