Condensation + Intermittent Alarm Fault

Alright boys,

I have a Z4M Coupe and I'm wondering whether anybody has ever suffered a condensation build up on mainly the inner windscreen and if so did you find the cause? As of yet I cannot see a problem area. The car is used every other weekend on non rainy days so has little use in wet conditions.

Also I have a very intermittent fault where my alarm will randomly become active, if I lock the car via the door lock and not the fob it seems to do the trick so I'm presuming that the fob activities other alarmed areas! Wether or not these two faults are linked I'm thinking is possible but just a bugger to find out the faulty area.

I had a 5 series which had these problems - turned out to be a blocked drain plug that meant water was getting into the floorpan (under the carpets). The water was then moving around when the car was parked on a slope, the water moving and draining into the boot was causing the alarm to trigger ( usually at night much to the neighbours annoyance!).

Might be worth checking water in the boot or wet carpets anywhere - hth

Yep, common fault, switch is up near the bulkhead and replacement is cheap and very easy.

My alarm was doing exactly as you describe, new switch was around £11 from a main dealer and 2 mins to swap over. Unplug, remove, replace with new switch and reconnect. That was 2-3 years back, never had a problem since.
 
If you're feeling tight then you can just unplug the sensor to see if it stops. Mine also went - it's pretty common.
 
I've had a lot of the condensation build up on inside of the windscreen and side windows. Vast improvement when I changed the old and dirty cabin/pollen filter. I think that when my hood is saturated ,especially when setting off to work early in the morning, it adds to the problem too. Part of the joys of winter convertible motoring I suppose!

On the "condensation", if you just mean misting up, check out advice in this thread from last January - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73011 - I just got my Coupe in December, had misting, so followed the simple advice there about the "recirculate setting" - do you have it set for 'Auto with recirculation' - with Left LED lit (circle icon with letter "A" inside) ? :thumbsup:

Scooba_Steve is that you from Northern Ireland?

I'm having the hazard lights alarm symptoms right now looking to be the bonnet sensor...hopefully
 
Replaced sensor seems to have her sorted, plus the kind folks decided to throw in some new premium wiper blades for my efforts.
