Condensation in the boot

Hi guys and girls

I have recently purchased the 3.0i Se 2004 model. After cleaning out my car today I found that there was a lot of condensation on the boot lid?! This inturn has made the boot damp! I noticed about half a cup full of water in the battery compartment! Is this normal???? Admittedly the weather has been pretty bad recently!

Thanks for the response, how do clear the water round the roof motor? I believe that the water channels to divert water can get blocked! Could that be the problem!?

Ranski - don't think water in the battery compartment has anything to do with the roof motor.

If you were getting condensation on the inside of the rear screen then OK.

I'd be checking for boot related leaks. Around rear lights, boot lid seal and especially the third brake light.

No visible cracks in the rear lights and the seal around the boot looks pretty health too! Any more ideas???

It won't be cracks around in the lights but the seal between them and the boot skin, especially the centre high level that often leaks and you can't really tell if the boot seal is working just by looking as it may not be making proper contact at all points.

10:1 says it's the third brake light seal so a quick test with a gentle bit of water from a hose will soon find it.

It could be, but equally I'd doubt it and it would have nothing to do with water in the boot. If you havn't done so then clean the drains out.

Sounds to me that you have a water leak as I've noted above and a generally wet car as moisture moves around and condenses on it's favourite place - the rear screen (no airmovement on it). IMHO you need to do some testing to find the leak and also dry the car out completely.

At a recent car show on a cold morning I'd say near 50% of the cars had misted rear screens - just the time of year.
