Condensation in both Headlight units.

Hi. I am a newbie Z4 E89 owner. I bought my Zed 3 months ago. All was well until 2 days ago when I noticed condensation in both headlights. Obvious the colder mornings are having this effect. Is this an expensive fix? Can I do it myself (joiner, not a mechanic), or should I send her off to the garage? :?

Subbed, curious as to how normal this is.

I have seen condensation in a couple of Z4 tail or head lights depending on weather, my current car also has it in one of the lights but it does not appear to cause any issues

I dont think i's causing an issue at the moment but my mechanic freind(retired) informed me a may be an MOT failure if the lights are scattered by the condensation?

Open the rubber caps on the headlights and dry them out with a hairdryer. When you replace the caps make sure both on each headlight are securely in place.
Another thing to check is the wheel well liners. If a garage did headlight or bumper work, they may have taken them off and put them on in the wrong order. If that's the case, water will be thrown on the back of the headlight housings when driving in rain.

No, you can open the hood/bonnet to reach in to remove the caps and use a hairdryer to dry the lamp out. Or, if you have a nice day or two, you can just drive around without the caps to dry the headlights. Then put the caps back on.

The wheel well liner is two piece. When you open the hood, you can see the seem between the two halves to make sure the overlap is in the right direction. Basically, the rear wheel liner should be positioned under the front liner. I can post a picture if you need.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked at my wheel well and both "doors" are missing! Could this be my problem and can I replace them?

Yes. If those little doors are missing. Water will be thrown all over your lamp housing. FCP euro has them. I would suggest duct tapping those holes really well until you get new covers. And keep the covers on the lamp housing until you get the wheel liner covers fixed.

Double check on realoem.co , but I think you need the following for an e89

(1) BMW 51717149449
(1) BMW 51717149450
(4) BMW 51757230845
