concrete floor - Mancaves

Any one care to share any experience they have of the best way to seal, finish the concrete floor in a garage. Mine is rather soft and dust just keeps coming. Read up a lot and the advice is to seal it with a sealer as paint will just peel off eventually.

So, my plan is to add Watco floor sealer aka...

https://www.watco.co.uk/watco-concrete-floor-paint.html

Will do it in light grey so it could be used as is but if that works I may add some carpet tiles as a top layer but I really need to seal the dust as its relentless...

Any experts done this already can advise before I blow £120 on floor sealer... :?

I'm no expert, but I did have a new garage once (sadly no more). :(

I swept the concrete then hoovered it. Applied a coat of watered-down PVA and finished it off with a coat of 2-part "industrial" floor paint from a firm that sponsors TV programmes.

The first time I put a bike on it's centre stand I wondered what sort of "industrial" use it was suited for - maybe a hairdressers! :headbang:

Anyway I just put carpet mats under bike stands after that.

But I never had a problem with concrete dust again!

I just pva'd mine. Don't know if it's right, but it stopped the dust and the paint didn't peel.

Used two pack epoxy paint on mine. After it’s gassed off and hardened it’s damn hard had jacked up my car on it and hasn’t even scratched it.

Try this thread from earlier in the year

Didn't think of PVA, thanks will have a search on that in depth but initial views are it must be the water proof version. Some users have experienced it peeling off too :o

Epoxy floor paint is my thinking but the concrete is so green and new the top layer is just dusting up.

Research says use a sealer to chemically harden it and seal it in.

I have used Watco products before and know they are quality, just so frustrating that a new floor is in such a poor state. It hindering mancave progress :P

lights and power done, roof boarded for additional storage, wall cabinets up, workbench built but still a few bits to do if only I could stop the frikin dust :headbang:

Great looking floor btw. The Watco sealer is a light grey and hardens around 30% better than original concrete finish apparently...

y floor is pretty green, did you do any prep work other than clean completely from dust..?

Nah just scraped brushed and hoovered
The instructions on amazon have a bit about fresh concrete floors

Well pulled the pin on it this weekend and just cleaned the floor up vigorously and added the sealer.

After that hit it hard with the floor paint and so far happy with the results.

Not the best picture but... you get the picture

Cheers man just need to finish the walls white, wood and metal work black, put some 1ft wide rubber Strip on the walls, add some more sockets and will be all done! Finished giving her a full decontamination, polish and wax the other day so she’s back all snug in there. Big thanks to forum member Estoril for the cover. Good man!

Looks good in light grey. How much paint did you need in the end?

5 litres of sealer all gone. Plus 2 x 5kg packs, a bit thin in places but excellent coverage.

I had a bit left over but couldn’t really get back in and use it to patch up the thin spots. Happy with it, it feels rock hard too.

Have been busy putting everything back already and it doesn’t mark up at all so far.

Onto the next phase of better lighting and storage etc. next.

Now it’s dust free it feels transformed

Yeah keeping the dust away makes all the difference I was choking on it every time I brushed up. Got some 18” sealed fittings free off a job along with a load of conduit and fixings etc. Made good use of them. Have a plug in paint inspection tube and plug in work light for extra help.

I was looking at LED with a couple of 22watt 5 feet battens

https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/KBBAT5.html

Plus il keep the two 500watt halogens for winter and a lighting boost when needed.

The LED flood I used on the drive is amazing..

I started renovating my garage about two years (similar construction to yours) ago to house my Z, fitted plastic pipes down the lengths of the wall and then large heavy duty foam pipe lagging to protect the doors when they are opened in the garage... the walls are painted white and now I've got the floor to do, but thats neat what you've done
