Con rod bearings - Munich Legends

Considering having the con rod bearings replaced on my 74k mile ZMC and wondered if anyone had had the same work completed by Munich Legends.
If not, where did you use, if in the South East and roughly how much was it please.
Thanks.

Walkers Autotech, located between Loxwood and Wisborough Green, are highly recommended by Forum members. I cannot speak for their con rod expertise, but worth a call to them I think.

Let us know what prices you are quoted.

Seen some threads on M3 cutters and they reckon around the £700 mark.

Thought the price would be double that, good if it's not thou. Be interested to see what they come back with.

I would also speak to Phil Crouch at CPC Performance. Just make sure you call before 10 or so in the morning!

If you are willing to spend a bit more and can travel to Bristol, its worth speaking to Redish Motorsport.
It's a possibility. What do they charge?

even with some of the beef I've had with them, imo they are the best of the bunch currently, simpson are also good but all of these people need keeping an eye on, even the best of them will take the piss given the chance.... this phil a CPC needs to sort out his customer service tbh, absolutely no point dealing with someone thats only contactable in the morning, get a flippin admin for gods sake.

Would it be cheaper (labour) to get this done at the same time as an Inspection service?

Wouldn't have thought so mate, you would only save the oil/oil filter I guess but that's it.

Yeah, maybe only in the sense that you're chucking them a load of money anyway so you have decent haggling power. I'd be amazed if it can be done for £700. Lots of fiddly things to do before removing the bottom end.

If you are doing preventative maintenance it might be worth getting the engine mounts replaced too.

I spoke to them in the context of an E92 so not directly comparable but was impressed by their attention to detail and have heard good things from two people who have used them (both of whom are much better able to judge than I)

Phil did mine at 50K miles. I can't tell you the price as it was one of a few things done at the same time.
You can reach his receptionist most of the time in office hours. To catch Phil himself you'll need to call before 0800h as he doesn't reliably answer his mobile when he's working.

Ben - slightly off-topic but why did you do this at 50k? Did you have a problem with the car already? To me I have (in my fantasy long term ownership ideal) budgeted for this around the 80k-100k mark, if at all.

I was concerned by reports of catastrophic failure in other applications of the S54 (mainly early M3s before they changed the spec of the shells). My Zed is largely a track car so I changed them at 50K just as a precaution. The good news is that they were pristine, so most road cars shouldn't see problems at such low mileage.
And it's Richard :P

I'd support Munich Legends, used them for all of the work on my Z4MC. Very knowledgeable guys. They are all S54 nuts, so they know this engine very well. Also a great trip down there to look at the BMW exotica they will undoubtedly have kicking around.

Do you mind if I ask why you've decided you need the bottom end bearings replacing ? Are you doing the mains as well?

Peace of mind really. I want to drive the car without concern of engine suffering serious damage if the fail. Its done 74k miles and it is evidently an Achilles heal of the S54. Some choose to others take a 'risk'. Big ends not being done.
