Computer just lost all it's history

Started the car just now and the date/time had been wiped, pls all my averages (mpg, speed, trip etc) had been reset. Nav addresses are still there as are my DSP settings.

Any idea what this might be? it's never happened before.

(possibly related issue - my alarm has been going off regularly recently)

Battery is fine in the sense that it always turns over nicely and starts quickly.

Maybe a loose conection somewhere?

Despite the car starting OK may be the first signs of battery failure. How old is your battery?

Mine started doing this web the battery was giving up the ghost. Even though it cranked fine.

my 2.0 did this around winter times
not sure if its linked to the computer display going dim for a few seconds every so ofthen when i was driving
i ignored and persisted though

Thanks all.

Since my warranty has £100 excess i guess i'm better of sourcing a battery myself rather than going via BMW?

If so, any recommendations where to get one from? Is there anything special about them?!

Mine did this when I wasn't using it so much over the winter but hasn't done it for agessss now.

Has it happened again? give it a few more runs in case something drained it as a one off.

Mine is a daily hack and does about 60 miles a day, rain/shine/sleet/snow so no chance of that!

It's only wiped the memory once, but the alarm is going off most days now

The alarm may be a separate issue. The bonnet sensor is a common culprit. If the alarm were not constantly going off, you may be able to get by on the failing battery for a few more months. But the alarm could also be caused by a failing battery alone. :idunno:

At least try disconnecting the bonnet sensor and see if that helps. (if that sets off the alarm, I meant to say short the sensor leads, I forget which way the sensor switch works.) :?

A battery under warranty? I;d be surp[rised if you got away with that personally.

But go to Tayna.co.uk best prices, great selection and they ship safely overnight. Just bought my fifth battery from them for various vehicles.

The BMW AUC warranty covers the battery. The Extended warranty does not.
