Hi,

I have a problem.

I purchased a BMW Z4 SE 3.0 months ago, everything is working fine.

I drive it every other weekend, therefore it is in my garage for a week at the least without being used and sometimes 2 weeks.

Recently, i noticed that after 15/20 mins, the sound goes on my radio, or cd, or sat nav and the computer screen half locks up.

Basically you cant move between functions easily, although the sat nav works, just no sound.

I will stop the car, if i get into it a few hours later, it works again, but then a similar time period later the same thing happens.

I tried to bluetooth my phone last night and that was a nightmare too, it paired, but kept detecting and undetecting etc. It might be related might not.

I have been told by BMW Peterborough they can look into it for me, £130 for an hour investigation.

What would you do? Ahh one last thing, im keen to get an ipod connector fitted, which is £350 with BMW, any alternatives?

Thanks,

Steve

p.s. all my electrics work e.g.heated seats etc.

Sounds like something is faulty.. if it's Approved Used I'd take it back, if it's private you need to narrow it down.

If the Nav is working but the Radio / Computer side isn't, I'd suggest a faulty Radio Unit, as this controls sound and interfaces with the Computer, whereas the Nav module is seperate, as is the Bluetooth.

What would be very handy is if you know an Independant Specialist who have an identical radio unit they could try (from a Z4 or X3 for testing).

Almost sounds like it's going into sleep mode then?

Intravee, DICE, Aux socket etc. There's plenty of information on the forum, do a search and see which you think suits your needs :)

If you have the Nav screen an intravee unit would work a treat.

Ahhhh ha.

Went out today in my car, same issue happened with my radio/sound/computer, it froze, so I thought i would lightly tap the radio unit and it started working lol.

I then tapped again and it went off, tap and on. Mmmm, me thinks a connection?

I'm off to Benstens tomorrow to get a software upgrade and program my key to drop the roof down, touch wood it all goes well :)

Hi,

Benstens in St Ives upgraded the software and job done, been in car last two days and no issues at all :)

Happy days!

Steve
