my trusty SIP compressor has developed an odd problem.

Fixing a pals car tonight and went for the windy gun. quick burst then it ran out of air, wait 10 seconds and the same again. receiver showing 150 psi, out let the same. except the outlet drops straight away to almost zero. Its as if the airflow from the receiver is blocked limiting flow.

haven't had time to look further yet but any ideas before I start pulling it apart over the weekend?

its one of their mid-range models (can't remember the exact model) twin cylinder, 100l receiver.

Make sure your receiver isn't full of water and therefore significantly reducing the avaialble air volume. There should be a drain tap somwhere on the receiver. Compressed air is capable of holding considerable amounts of water which can cool and condesne in the receiver or downstream in the air delivery pipework.

+1 :thumbsup: when was the last time you drained the moisture/water?

You should find a small drain tap on the bottom of the tank - wait a few days for the air to drain (you may have to wait a few days for the pressure to drop) then remove the plug and drain the water. disconnect the output regulator and then throw it away.

Buy a new outlet regulator (machine mart?) and think about fitting a moisture trap on the outlet side as a second line of defence.

The water can be forced into the regulator and rusts up all the parts. You may have noticed that you have run most of the air of out of the cylinder before the compressor kicks in to maintain pressure or damp around the exhaust of the tool you have been using.
 
I also have the 100L SIP "V-Twin" symptoms are exactly the same as mine, I got one direct from SIP, only £23 and solved the problem immediately. You don't need much of a water build up! About a mug and a half of water from condensation in a 200L tank killed my regulator valve :o

I'm a lot more disciplined about draining it now.
 
morning all.

Had a look at the regulator last night and it is indeed a bit rusty/corroded inside. I drain the compressor periodically and very little ever comes out - just a couple of drops if anything.

I'll nip to machine mart later - hope it fits my SIP compressor.
