Compliments ?

I expect almost everyone here is smitten by the aesthetic appeal of our Zeds.
Some even admit to one last glance before tucking them into bed each night.
When I first drove my Zed, I thought everyone was looking at me (or the Zed)
As time passed and familiarity set in, I was less aware .
But it's not unusual to get a thumbs up (even from a copper), or have someone roll down a window at a stop light and pay a compliment.
Similarly in parking lots, often older women express admiration.
Not too sure what that means - A Little Old Lady from Pasadena as per the Beach Boys song ?
No doubt Zeds are attention getters, and we all admire ours and others cars.
Anyone here have a catchy comeback to respond to this admiration.
Something of a humble return courtesy ?

Couldn't agree more! The zeds do have a degree of 'speciality' to them and I think also look far more up class and pricier than they are, I'm only 23 and am on my 3rd zed, I consistently get attention more so from Middle Ages/older men giving me the sort of respectful smile or nod of the head, although a few weeks ago I pulled up in the petrol station and a rather attractive woman in her early 20s in a 316 on the pump in front suddenly had a beaming smile and made a comment about how I'd gone and out done her and spent the whole time giving me a cheeky smile, whether it was all down to the car who knows :p
I think part of what's special is that coupe or convertible the z4 is one of the only reasonably price bracket (ie no your lambo, Ferrari, top end porche) that is a manly 2 seater with class ;)

Today as I was filling up with fuel, a guy pulls up at the side of me and says "Lovely , nice bit of kit there mate"
Its a bog standard car and needed a wash but nice to hear.

A guy walked past me washing mine yesterday.. said he's going to win the lottery and get his brother to buy my car (as he can't drive).

.... I didn't want to mention he doesn't quite need to win the lottery.. but hey.

Had a few passers by like that, petrol stations, services, carparks .. tho usually when sweating my tits off scrubbing the CSLs with what looks like a toothbrush to the non-detailing world, i think the friendly attention is a unique thing for us Imola Coupe owners

A young guy (I'm 29) pulled up behind me at Sainsbury's petrol station at the weekend and commented

"nice wheels mate, pefect day for a convertible, i love the shiny black dash"

I just said thank you as wasn't really expecting such a comment.
I've had occasional nods from other convertible drivers as well (not just BMW's) so I guess they are something a bit more than the everyday Fiesta's and Astra's. :D

I've driven my car about 50 miles since it's been somewhat 'driveable' again.

The thing turns heads everywhere it goes probably a combination of the sheer stupidity of the thing and the noise of that straight pipe straight 6.

I don't think people are looking in a 'I want that car' way... more of a WTF has he done to that Z4... what a complete K**b Jockey!

Get a few compliments every so often.

Most recent was an insult from a group a bikers. Insulting the size of my penis
I had to laugh because I wasn't the one wearing tight leathers with other men
Wankers.

They do look like they cost more than do, but for me it's the muscular stance that makes them a man's car. Very few cars carry that off, and certainly not many that can be had for £10k.

TT, SLK, Boxster, MX5 and possibly an S2000 are far more 'girly'.

I have had some nice comments about mine at petrol stations and when getting in at car parks. It seems to get plenty of looks when it's all clean and the roof is down on a sunny day.

When I was taking it to work I had a couple of you must have a second job comments that made me laugh if only the knew how much it was really worth. One girl at work always said she was scared when ever she parked next to it for fear of damaging it if only more people thought like this.

Considering the Z4 is over 10 years old it's a testament to the design that they still look so good.

I think a lot of people have the mindset that because it's a BMW it's automatically expensive, the funny thing is they're probably paying double the amount to run around in a new shopping trolley financed up to the eyeballs.

w*****s.

My mate is a die-hard biker and currently has a CBR Fireblade, had a run out with him recently and he made quite a few positive comments which surprised me. He's normally anti-car to the fullest.

It always makes me smile and feel great when somebody walks past and says something like:

"Hey mate, that's the bollocks!"

Just like yesterday :D

I'm assuming he was talking about the Z as I was polishing the wheels, but thinking about it now he might have been commenting on the rip in my shorts :?

Either way, a compliment is always nice.

Had a Bentley Continental at the pump opposite when I pulled into our local petrol station. It was a glorious site huge, deep dark green and very clean and shiny. It was a great feeling when the owner gave me an appreciative nod whilst looking over the Zed and commented "Nice on a day like today" my response something like "Not bad what you have there..." or the like.

We got talking whilst paying and he told me this was his third Continental and they made an excellent nearly new purchase - I offered him a swop for the day and he laughed and left with another positive nod at the Zed. Always liked the Continental but on that day he was quite correct - I had the right car.

:driving:

I had a biker guy and his wife compliment my car the other week. He wanted to know what colour it was because he loved it - the sun was out and MB looks incredible in the sun and it had Darren's CSL's on it.

You get a few "what the hell is that?" expressions from people still as well in the Coupe because they are a rare sight really.

Sadly recently i've noticed ah ell of a lot of Coupe's in the SW London area, yuppy types like me i guess :D

There's a few //M's within a mile of my house, don't think any are on here though.

Not really compliments. Majority of people from work take the piss.
Hairdresser.
James Bond wannabe.
You're getting paid too much.
Poser.
Etc.
But they're tossers.

It's normally bikers at the lights or along a dual carriageway that give approval.

MD at my place made a quip about "looks like a half failed businessman's car". I replied "well I do work here".

I heard some kids walking past my house going wow at it... it's dark blue (toledo?) and dirty as hell.

I tell people I drive it to make up for my tiny penis. No one knows what to do with someone apparently volunteering that information.

Good times.

I've had the odd comment but don't notice it every drive. That said there is often a fair amount of Exotica around Guildford so the Z is pretty underwhelming.
