Maybe Jon. In that case, can you send me some prints to stick in the windscreen of my new purchase:?

Have you seriously bought a 'Lord of the Road'!

Are you seriously asking? No. I would never buy a car that I can't spell.
Those things are an affront to all things vehicular. The Merc R series comes a close second.

Of course not - there would have been a thread about it!

Damn - seconds too late. :(

Who in their right minds lets a bunch of Romanians (presumably a car wash place) anywhere near their zed. :o :o :o

I am ashamed to admit....but I did exactly that on Saturday. First wash in months, turned my grey/brown paintwork into alpine white and whilst I know they probably took more than dirt off the paint, for me its worth it...since then I feel proud of my car again and have had the roof down several times since.

I've done the whole "treat the paintwork like a babies bottom" thing, got all the gear and chemicals and have in the past spent whole days cleaning (nothing like a nice clean car with silky smooth paint) but you know what....

At the moment, I just can't be arsed with washing it myself. Car had lots of swirls when I got it so was never pristine to begin with and my car cleaning motivation comes and goes, so for now, I'm happy that it looks clean.

And 'my' Romanians (run by an Indian) ain't bad at all - jet wash, snow foam, jet rinse, leather, do the wheels & tyres, door & boot shuts - the best part of half an hour for £10 + £1 tip. An occasional Autoglym is £25 and shows & lasts well.

Only today someone stopped me in a car park to say (how handsome I am and) how well the car looks (which is what prompted me to start the thread).

I had a Melbourne Red 3.5is with black upholstery. Do you think that the reason I didn’t get so many compliments was because I didn’t have the white upholstery?
Yep. Apart from white going well with red, there's something luxuriously impractical - 'Well, I'd never have a car with leather that colour' ... it'd be filthy in a week' - about Ivory White. And the Nappa & Alcantara are as soft as they look. :)

Buster you will need to fit more mirrors in the car so you can look at yourself more often 8) the car park wasn't attached to a bingo hall was it?

It's nice when it happens.
A few months ago a young lady walking her dog, stopped, smiled & gave us a thumbs up as we drove through a mini roundabout.
The roof wasn't even down.

Then, 3 days ago on a sunny Sunday with the roof down, heads turned, children smiled & waved and all was right with this small corner of the world.

Exactly, again.

The 'cleaning' that actually worries me is stone chips. I've never had a car that attracts so many. Mind you, they're unavoidable after 65,000 miles, often exploiting its 335 bhp & over-boost, I suppose. That said, it's entirely rust-free, not least perhaps because it's always kept in a warm car port under the house.

As for 'care', it's maintained to the letter by a long-established indy and a big AD when that's unavoidable. OK, so it's not clay-barred and molly-coddled in that way, but it sure as Hell is treated well.

It's a good car and I like it a lot. Plainly, so do other people. But when I flash them my Hugh Grant good looks, that's hardly surprising, is it?

One word:

Never been to a car wash but I remember talking to a chap a few years ago (from the leccy board) He was talking about an argument he had at the 'Taliban car wash' (his words not mine).
At the time it was £5 for a wash and dry. He took his car there one Saturday and the car wash boss said they would have to charge him £8 because the car was absolutely filthy. He said to the boss man "feck off, I often bring my car here when it's not very dirty at all but you never give me a discount". Made me laugh.

In my experience the E89 is a real head turner, every time I take it out you can see people's heads turn. Many have given me the thumbs up or want to talk about the car whilst out and about. Not bad for a car going on 13 years now.

Am tempted, but even on their website their example (on the Aston Martin) isn't invisible and I'd rather have a plain-for-all-to-see chip than an ah-there's-a-chip-that's-been-repaired chip.

I asked my local AD paint shop manager how much a bonnet repaint would be. "£600, but if I were you, I'd leave it as it is. The chips are part of the car's history. And, anyway, you'll only get more."

Take a driving holiday down here to the Costa del Sol and my guy can do a good quality paint job for you for around 200€ :)

A great invitation. Thank you.

I asked the AD paint shop manager for just fun, because I knew his quote would be the most expensive. (My experience of AD body shops is that, like Sturgess-Jaguar in Leicester, for example, they're crap, anyway.)
