***Completed*** Scorpion Exhausts - E85/86 - 2.5si and 3.0si Exhaust System Development!

It's not so much for peak power but the shape of the torque curve compared to standard, flat spots & the general shape of the graph would be interesting to see compared to the "before" run
Rob

I can't see there being any change at all to the power curve as the original pipe run and diameter has been kept, all the pipework is mandrel bent, so no compressed parts to restrict flow, and the silencers are made with a free flow design.

Sports cat back exhaust systems if made correctly don't effect these things. You'd certainly never see any flat spots or drops in power as it's all after the catalyst and manifolds which is where the main restriction in the stock system is.

Don't forget, I work in the tuning industry and would not be doing this if it was likely to change the power delivery or in any way have a negative effect on my pride and joy. The company I work for have fitted Sports/Performance Cat-Back systems on to literally thousands of vehicles, many of which are N/A with no ill effect.
As well as this; Two members of my sales team have served time in the performance exhaust industry themselves, one of which was a Director of Janspeed and the other one of the co-founders of Pipewerx exhausts whom I've questioned on the subject of this quite extensively :)

I would however fully expect a poorly made back box, or rear silencer delete to have a very minor effect on certain areas of the torque curve. As an example, A pair of poor quality compression bends at the entry point to the rear silencer could potentially "strangle" the exhaust system at the top end of the Rev range.

This is looking good

Cheers!

I'll find out a bit more tomorrow, but as I've often say, it's not realistic to expect a decent measurable performance gain from a Cat Back exhaust on a naturally aspirated.

This is why they tend to power test before and after, but keep the figures to themselves.

+1

Any difference in terms of power here is going to be negligible especially on an NA car, as mentioned there also shouldnt be any noticeable changes in terms of delivery because the system isnt shorter or freer flowing to any great degree, I would be surpirsed to see 1 or 2bhp difference and that would be within realm of basic air temp flux rather than tangible performance improvement.

Excellent level of progression on this, hat off to the guys at Scorpion for a fast development cycle!

Absolutely cant wait to hear it! :trampoline: :yeah:

If I spend money on my exhaust it would have to be for a quad solution. Don't see much point otherwise.

Thanks for your input, however that's just your opinion.
There's a few points to it to be honest.
1) I don't really want to be messing around with bodywork.
2) I'm not really looking to make the car look like an 'M'. I'm quite proud to have a 3.0si.
3) The same system with two extra tailpipes would add a further 3kg+ in weight.
4) It's gonna sound lovely.
5) Adding an additional pair of tailpipes doesn't have any performance benefit at all.

Just had a final batch of photos through from Thomas at Scorpion

So here's the first production system off the line ready to be fitted up to my car:

Needless to say, I'm over the moon with how it has all come out and I'm really looking forward to heading over there after work tomorrow to go and pick the car up! :)

It's great that they are sending you photos - good ones at that! The system looks top notch

Can't fault them, honestly! I've nothing but praise for the guys at Scorpion :)
The overall design of the exhaust (both system wise and tailpipes wise) was exactly what I was looking for, and it's come out looking even better than I expected.

It's almost a shame the underside of it won't be visible as it's a total work of art!

Looks like top notch work, bet you can't wait to hear it

Absolutely! I'm totally buzzing with excitement and anticipation.
There's pretty much zero chance of me being able to sleep tonight...

But at least I have some work to do in the workshop after hours on a friend's E46 330ci Club Sport to keep me busy and tire me out :)

Haven't even bought my zed yet and I'm watching with interest!

Hope the pickup tonight goes well for you!

Now that I've got my baby home after a wonderful drive back from Scorpion Exhausts:
a quick 'rev' video ;)

Probably best viewed in a separate browser window in HD for the best sound quality.
Apologies it isn't the best quality. Hopefully I'll be able to get some start up, drive away and drive-by videos soon.

The team at Scorpion Exhausts have done an absolutely wonderful job! From start to finish, in looking after me, keeping me informed and sending me some really great photography of the development stages.

As for the exhaust itself, I can still relax when chilling at motorway speeds at which point the exhaust note is quieter than the road noise. But give it a bit of throttle and put the engine under load and it absolutely sings! The rumble on over run is a nice touch too. The vehicle certainly hasn't lost any power, if anything it feels a little more responsive on the throttle and a bit more eager go than previously.

Over the moon doesn't even begin to explain how happy I am with it all!
Hopefully the next time there's a meet relatively local, I'll try get over to it so that anyone looking to come and have a listen can do, if not, at some point I may even get involved in arranging a meet myself!
I feel it's probably time I started to get a bit more involved in the community on here :)

After all the efforts the Turnpike meet next Sunday 10th Apr would be a great place to show the exhaust off :)
Now cut to the chase  c'est combien ? :D

According to Google translate, it's going to cost a Blue crescent and big ham is blah. Glad thats cleared up :?

That sounds pretty nice  Would be lovely if someone could help and record the sound from outside the car and share it for those who can't make it on the 10th :)
I have been following with great interest since start, definitely one of the most exciting project! I am already saving my croissants if the Scorpion guys decide to sell it :P

It'll probably take a few weeks for them to get the system online and priced up. But as soon as that is done; I will let everyone know.

Couldn't get the car in for it's MOT test today and I have the busiest two weeks in my year so far' schedule coming up, so I may end up keeping the car off the road for a week or two until I get through the next few weeks.
Lucky I don't use the car for commuting :) but I'll do my best to get it done before 10th so I can make the meet!

Sounds and looks Great Al. I am definitely keen to purchase this for my car. Just waiting for an annoying, potential redundancy drive to f**k off at work, then I am in the market for the suspension and exhaust upgrade. Will pay you a visit at some point to see and hear in the flesh, if that's ok with you....

I might sound like Im chatting bubbles, but I can hear how much freer the flow sounds compared to mine that is still stock. Sounds throaty. Love it. Think I might have to put one of the kids up for adoption, need more cash for mods in my life!

Subbed for price.

I'd love to go with a system like this but being in California the smog laws are strict (removing the cats).

No worries at all Ged!

If your car is a 3.0si, It won't actually touch the cats at all, as these are attached to the manifolds.
Unless of course the Californian spec has additional secondary cats in the location of the centre silencer.
