COMPLETE: Paddles on 3.0 auto + re-trimming

Trust me as I have an SMG it's best to have both paddles to up and down shift

mrlozzer - do you have an auto
Sort of.... the zed is a manual, but my 5er is a switchable auto. Quite like the idea of paddles on that and by all accounts the process is the same...

Interesting to know, I think I need to try a car with paddles. Do the paddles stay still or move when turning the wheel?

Pretty sure that they move with the wheel... assuming it's the same as with the 3ers and 5ers...

Oh right, I had hoped they stayed put as I tend to keep my hands at 10 and 2 even when turning, so clicking up a gear with the right hand paddle and down with the left hand paddle seemed a really nice way to go, but if the paddles are moving then mac27040 is probably right.

Paddles with electrician for re-wiring.

steering wheel with Royal Steering wheel for re-trimming.

All wiring up to slip ring completed and tested OK.

Hopefully this weekend going to get everything for fitting.

That's the job cracked then as routing the wiring and getting up to the slip ring is the hardest part of the job. If you bench test the paddles it shoudl be a 10 minute swapover once you get the wheel back

The paddles rotate with the steering wheel thus on an SMG you use the gear shift to change gear round tight corners. Having different paddles to do up shift or down shift will be a nightmare when light cornering, also this is none standard so check with insurance as if you crash your policy may not cover you.

Ok guys

All working now, very excited about the paddles, really missed it after trading in my 335.

Here are some pics of the finished project with new trimming on the steering wheel
