Hi all!

Nice to see there is a forum out there for Z4 owners. I am a very recent member of the club. Took delivery on Monday 3rd August in the UK, started my mammoth journey across Europe on the 4th. Finally reached my new home in the Balkans today after a 2500 km trip.

I'm a complete noob to decent cars, only got my licence at 33 and have since owned a Punto and an old 1800 Escort as well as driving the obligatory company Golf up and down the UK, hoping I can get a lot of info from here as well as make any small contribution I can.

I've noted a 'friendly' rivalry already between models browsing the forum, should be amusing. Mine is the new hard top 23i. Anyway I am hoping for a 'first', part of my journey took me through Switzerland and Italy and having had a browse around I decided to take on the Stelvio Pass of Top Gear fame. Fingers crossed I might be the first to send a few pics of the new model from there?

First one is just before the pass, somewhere between Livigno & Bormio.

Next couple are on the North face, the only time I really stopped to take a couple of snaps - it's all about the driving after all : )

Finally a look at part of the North section for those who haven't seen this pass before. For those unaware of it, it is a pass of 40 odd hairpins up and down an Alp. Have to say in terms of sheer driving fun some of the approach roads were better, there are too many cars, motorbikes, and very hardy cyclists on this road for it to be a pure thrill. Still, it was a great feeling to get up and down it.

Looking forwards to chatting to all of you

Now get to work on those bug splats....

I'm a total newbie too. Love my Z and drive it daily. Glad to see someone else's not always with a pristine wash! Can't wash and drive at same time, huh?

lol damn right Z4Me. Life is for living...

Having said that I will be giving it a well-deserved clean up later today. There are a LOT of bugs who decided to commit suicide on me.

Thanks for the welcome Paddy & WLH

I assume it was cheaper to buy a left hand drive car in the UK than at home then, would have though there ar cheaper places in Europe.

It confuse our American friends though, a left hand drive GB Car. :poke:

It confused everybody - especially the Italians who were very keen to gather around.

Buying in the UK was oddly the cheapest option. We get tax breaks for doing government work and I also drove the salesman down hard. Times are hard for new car sales and all that. BMW are way ahead of Mercedes on this one at the moment, if exporting from the UK Mercedes are insisting on true Euro based pricing, whereas BMW have kept the £ option more or less as it was pre-crunch for UK purchases.

Having said that my cheapest quote for shipping it was over £2,000 - I thought it would be more fun to drive than put the money in somebody else's pocket : )

...and with roads like that i'd have done it that way even if it cost me more! I need some of that in my life :( Was supposed to go this year on a road trip, we ended up going to Turkey instead....kind of a turnaround! lol

Forgive my delay, not used to people asking for more holiday pics lol

Not many more of the z4 unfortunately and am sure you don't want to see holiday snaps of the various locations, so just a couple more here

Waiting in the Euro Tunnel

Back home in the garage. Having done 2500 km we came home to a huge thunderstorm and rivers for roads. Limped through many places veeerrry slowly, the irony of cutting out 5 miles from home was not lost on me...

Close up in the garage. I have given it a clean since, will try to find somewhere photogenic to show more another day

Thanks for all the interest!

Nice pictures petkiller! Apologies for not commenting earlier, didn't realise till after my upload that there was now a page 2! You've caught the atmosphere of the place really well.

My passenger was supposed to be taking video and stills along the way but it is not the best ever footage she has produced. Spent rather more time squealing and hanging on during the turns...

dan_i where did you end up in Turkey? I love the place from 2 visits and the roads are amongst the best I have ever seen in my life. I have only ever been in a hire car there but now have the opportunity to take my own. Expect pictures of archeaological ruins with blue BMWs sometime soon!
