Hi All
I have just been reading a few of the engine related issues you guys have experienced and I wish I had read this website before I purchased my Z4 2L SE last year. In the 15 months I have had the vehicle it has been back to the garage 9 times. 3 different faults. First was a new ignition switch after 6 days of owning it wouldn't start
great purchase I'm thinking. Then over the next 10 months it was returned to the dealership 6 times for engine lag/sluggish performance and engine judder when setting off. Engine lag felt like there was a lack of fuel getting to the engine when accelerating away and when at constant revs the performance wavered in and out. This only happened in 2nd and 3rd gears. The engine judder was when I was setting off, basically the car bounced and rattled as setting off quite fiercely. Stratstone at Hull couldn’t diagnose the fault and sent me the car back and basically washed their hands of the vehicle as they were not getting anywhere?!! Great! NOT!!!!!
The most recent failure of the vehicle could quite easily of cost me my life. I was driving on the motorway and had just exited onto the slip road when the engine completely died. No power at all therefore no steering or breaks. I managed to swerve into a lay-by on the exit road. I was towed home by BMW Assist and the car was returned to the dealership the following morning. I had the vehicle back 3 days later and was told it was some dirt in the catalyst and reassured it was the cause of the engine failure and the car had undergone rigorous tests before being returned to me. Unfortunately I do not believe them as within 30 minutes of return my car did it again TWICE! The car went back again and I was told that this time it was a faulty ignition switch. They couldn’t guarantee me that this would not happen again and my warranty runs out at the end of September so I have formally rejected the vehicle and it is the hands of my solicitor. Although being second hand when I purchased it (only 55 plate) I hear tomorrow if they will be willing to exchange the vehicle but I feel very annoyed that I have had to take it to this extreme considering the potential threat to my life and that of others is not being taken into account. I hate the car with every breath in my body, I was always an avid fan of BMW’s but to be honest they are a waste of money and I have lost all faith in the brand. If they cannot see that customer service is paramount then they do not deserve loyal customers.
I will no longer be a BMW customer.
