Also, still can't believe there is not an emergency manual overide to get into the boot, especially as so much electrics are in there, and it needs electrics to open!

was it not possible to connect good charge under bonnet then press the boot release inside car ?

Theres no interior boot release on the E89.

Surely just attached leads under bonnet, then you can remove the key and open the boot?

On the subject of worrying e89 design though, if you are out with the roof down, have a very minor shunt to the rear of the car, you are likely to be screwed. The roof would not go back up. They should somehow manually override the link between bootlid and roof mech.

You just mentioned one of my big worries and why I spend all my time stopped at junctions,lights etc with one eye on the mirror not that I could do much about it anyway

Although the car is out of manufacturer's warranty, you should push for "goodwill' from BMW in repairing this for you FOC, especially if the job proves to be expensive or the ECU needs replacing.
