Complaint for speeding in 30mph area on Kent run...

I've been framed... as I saw the little blighters in their florescent jackets way before they saw me & they've claimed I was doing 37mph… checked & double checked GPS to make sure of my speed, especially as I had just stopped to regroup 8 or so cars behind me. Those on the run will also know I made a special point both before and on the meet of reminding everyone to pay special attention to following residential speed limits 100%

I even joked with Stark at lunch who was driving behind me when it happened there’s no way we’d be on their list.

As u can imagine, I’m a bit pi##ed off that simply because I have a conspicuous sports car with the roof down, I was specifically targeted by overzealous individuals who clearly have not been properly trained nor were following proper procedures and know falsified their records.

Could have kept my gob shut, but car’s now been marked for next 12 months… so issued a counter letter of complaint today of:

• Why the two ladies in the florescent jackets totally ignored the fiesta in front of me that was pulling away & clearly going faster than myself – to the point one of them pointed at my car and appeared to get excited
• Why the gentleman who crossed the road between myself & the fiesta, appeared to be holding a clipboard and then began talking to them was not wearing a florescent jacket
• Ignored a vehicle coming the opposite way which crossed their line of sight (in law, readings must be discounted if another vehicle passes across clear line of sight)
• Only started to point their hand held device at my vehicle when I was very close to them – the brow of the hill where they were located meant there was already a big angle & continued to focus it on myself as I passed (understood proper readings

… any further advice?

Sorry, confused as to what's happened here? What do you mean your car has been marked for 12 months? If you weren't speeding, marked for what?

Ask them to produce a calibration certificate immediately. Any delay implies it wasn't calibrated on the day, which creates doubt. A conviction requires the evidence to be beyonds reasonable doubt.

Also - how fast. A judge will throw out anything under 35mph in a 30 zone.

Was the area marked with signs to alert you of the speed trap?

Finally, download "UK driving secrets" written by an ex speed cop, it has everything you need to know

Letter says my registration has been recorded on Police national computer as a complaint made for 'anti-social driving' & says if should be stopped again in next 12 months, both this alleged speeding offence would be investigated further as well as any reason why I had been stopped further - clear?

Yeah, I understand now... never heard of that sort of letter though, hence the confusion...

Claimed I was going 37mph... so know is real Bull~~~~ as then expect the 8 or so Zeds behind me would all have got collared as well... no alert of speed trap as these were just locals with hand held gun... & report info to police

Not sure who theses people were? Some sort of local speed vigilantes?
Not police surely
Fill us in on the gaps

the information from the speed gun will be used by the local safer neighbourhood scheme. You will receive a letter, but thats all what will happen.

Just to add though, I may be cynical but I'd say complaining about it (considering they haven't charged you with anything) will likely get you "unofficially marked". I'd be tempted to leave it as even if you win, what do you win?

that's fine... just know I was targeted. Be interested to learn if anyone else who was behind me got one...

local speed vigilantes

It's a warning letter from a community speedwatch NIMBY (or a child brainwashing scheme), so ignore it.

My mate does one down in Essex, but he says most of the people they catch are the locals (the same ones who asked for speed cameras/traffic calming measures in the first place), who then complain when they get the letters :P

They've got to actually have a officer catch you speeding to be able to penalise you.

yeah, I've had this a few times for the kitcar, despite always doing less than 30, as I know where they stand and know they're about.

Every time I write in asking for further details such as training certificates and calibration reports, and I never get a response.

I've been bull**** pinged about 4 times now - you can just ignore it :)

Jem..

I would take no notice of it ..it's probably a generic letter that gets sent out ..

It just acts as a warning..a sort of slap on the wrist for driving too fast.

I guess the moral is stick to the speed limit of you can :)

Tim.

Err that was my point, I was, I know I was & had at the time 8 or so Zed's behind relying on me I was...

The letter sounds like it was a S59, but it can't be as the source was the blue rinse brigade.

Was this during a section that the rest of the group did a little diversion through Sussex? :D

right, off home now.. time to put out the fuse

We don't have them up here and I haven't come across this before.
I am not sure how this data could be used and how qualified these people are. I realise they are trying to do the right thing but I would not be happy about this either as Jembo was obviously not speeding at the time.
They are also using or have access to data bases to identify names and addresses which is also concerning.
