Commuting in the Z4M - thoughts please.

Nice one, there were two the same that I've been looking at wistfully - wasn't overly sure about the champage and silver grey as a combo, but it definitely works on the inside, the champagne looks great with the carbon leather. Don't think it's missing any toys either. Although even at that price don't feel too sorry for them - I reckon they'll still be making on it, I doubt they'll have paid more than £25k for it at the internal auctions.FirstKnight said:mikedav said:

You've obviously done your homework on the running cost difference, and you have the car you wanted so enjoy. Great price for that car. I paid £27,000 for my 3.0si about 3 months ago with 2,000 miles on the clock so you had a great deal there. I have noticed on average dealer prices are dropping on Z4's at the moment. The same dealer I bought mine from has coupe's for sale now for around £2 -3000 less than I bought mine with around the same spec and mileage!

I've done some homework, like speaking to a few Dealers about servicing costs, checking how much tyres are and fuel costs. I took these into account when weighing up the overall value to me given that it was only £2k more than a lesser specc'ed and older 3.0si that I had originally thought to buy. Not having driven an ///M car but having driven a 3.0si, I'm not yet convinced the ///M will be better for me. Guess I'll soon find out!

Have to say I was still quite impressed with the performance of the 3.0.
However, I just thought feck it, you only live once, and went for it.
Honestly mate - you WON'T regret it. An awesome beast of a car. 18 months after getting mine, I've only ever seen one on the road, and I smile every time I go out in it. Its what roads were made for!

I actually see 3.0 Coupes all the time which is surprising, I have seen 6 or 7 Ms since I got mine 10 months ago but they are definitely rarer. When I had my M3 I had a test drive in a 335. Thats a quick car and on a pace with the Z4M / M3, but the latter both just feel much more urgent and are quite different to drive. You won't be dissapointed.

I am going through the exact same thing at the moment. I have got two BMW dealers fighting it out over a 3.0si Coupe and a Z4MC. Prices are daft at the moment - 1 year old cars with next to no miles for £15k - £20k off their buy price!
I have driven the 3.0si and was very impressed but it was wet so i was unable to exploit all the power. I am driving the Z4MC this weekend and I fear I will love it.
Saying that I think I will have to go with my head; I have just run the figures through my calculations and even though the buy price difference is only £20 per month the Z4MC will cost me £160 more PM compared to the 3.0si. This is just too much for me to cope with for a bit more power, most I expect I will not be able to use in the real world.
If someone can enlighten me on the servicing costs and intervals for the both cars I may change my mind (again) but I think I will just use this as further bargaining for the 3.0si - i dont feel i have raped them enough yet - but the Z4MC is just too much money.

In the end I chose the ///M simply because as a fan of the Marque - and going on to my 5th consecutive BMW - I really ought to try a ///M model at some point and I much prefer the looks of the car over the standard models.
I really don't intend to use the car in the capacity it is made for - fast driving and track use - and would be a better candidate for a 2.5si or 3.0si but I've decided to pay a premium for the ///M ownership experience much like I might get a Lambo or Ferrari had I been able to afford one. I'll be tootling around listening to the unstressed burble of the engine through the quad-exhausts or admiring the car on my driveway.
if your doing alot of motorway miles (like me) then the service intervals may well be closer to 14k... mines done just over 4k now and the interval is showing 9500 to go
i to went through the same scenario with the 3.0 i do 70 mile round trip commute so costs were a concern, but in the end the M won out... i never drive round in the M thinking i wish i had a 3.0si when i see one... however the day your sat at the lights in your 3.0si and Mr M roles up next to you it'll be different LOL

Reason enough to get it, plus it's a very well specced car too. I would have bought an SLK55 AMG instead of my 350 if I could have afforded another £10k, even though it wouldn't really be worth it for the extra performance.FirstKnight said:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 3.0si and for everyday use on our roads it doesn't appear - on paper - to be far away from the ///M and makes a very good economic argument when comparing the two. But the current state of used car values puts them much closer than the £10k list price difference when new. I felt it would be rude not to!

The only negative I have concerns the Satnav; it is pathetic really. The map disc is 08 so up-to-date but the quality of the image is insultingly poor. My wife's 3 year old Garmin Nuvi is far better and costs a fraction of the amount BMW charge. Indeed, I would sooner not have had SatNav in the car so that I could justify buying a new portable one that has so much more information displayed and looks far better. As it is, last night I went somewhere new and used the Nav but closed the screen so that I only heard the voice commands - far preferable to viewing something that looks like it was made 10 years ago!
As I mentioned in my post on the e90post forum, my wife has already caused there to be some stone chips on the boot lid :roll: but I'll get that repaired.
I haven't engaged the Sport button yet so I still don't know what difference it will make. I also haven't taken the car above 5000 rpm.

Yep looks fabulous, the contrast between champagne and carbon leather is really nice.
