Communication from dealer on new orders

Hi all, just wondering what the flow of information regarding build dates etc was/has been like for all of you that have purchased your new E89s?

I have had mine on order for nigh on 4 weeks and information from the dealer has been somewhat wishy washy. We were told it would be ready towards the end of May then the end of June, I questioned that and then was told the end of May again, then told that I would hear from them when it arrived at the Port. They also said we would be told when it was on 'lock down' - what on earth does that mean?!

Just wondered how and when you all got notification of your build dates etc and what sort of communication you got from the dealer/BMW?

I have to sell my current Zed but don't want to get it on the market too soon or too late and a slightly feckless salesman is not filling me with confidence.

Thanks folks

"Lock Down" is when the car is in final preparation before build - no changes can be made to your oder as this stage as they are getting everything ready to build it. Sods law dictates that this occurs at the same time as you want to make a change!

When I ordered my car they gave me an idea of build week, but they are only guides as production can change. Mine was actually built a week early. Once you;ve placed the order, nothing happens until its about to be built, so there is nothing for the dealer to tell you.

Once its being built, he should be able to tell you at what stage it is on a daily basis, and then when its been released to carrier. At that point it goes quiet again and although he'll know when its in the country, and will have an estimate of delivery date, nothing is in concrete until the car is on a transporter to the dealer. I think he gets 24hrs notice of its arrival.

You can phone him up and ask the latest details, but I wouldn't do it more than once a week to begin with.

It really boils down to your salesman/woman and how good he/she is at doing their job. Mine has been very good,

Sent me a letter after a few days I ordered the Z4 to thank me for my custom followed by e-mails at each stage i.e. e-mail the day my Zed was being built, and again when completed. Next e-mail was when it was released too the carrier and then when it had reached port to be shipped over to the UK. It did go quiet for a couple of weeks after that, partly I think as my salesman had left the dealership. I was then told by phone last Wednesday to say the Zed had arrived in the UK and was going through customs and then another call last Friday to say it had arrived at the dealer and to arrange a pick up day. All in all very satisfied at the comminication, best of any car I have ever ordered. With Audi I never heard anything from the day I ordered to be told the car was at the dealer.

I was informed by the dealer at time of order they would try for 1st quarter delivery i.e. end of March but this has run over slightly but nothing drastic.

Tim.

Hello fellow forum member with superb taste in car colour!

We got an email saying when it would be delivered but then it got put back by just over a week. Other than that no communication from them.

I don't think they will keep you informed on exactly what stage your car is at unless you ring and ask, you know what these dealers are like.

i have to chase mine every so often to get an update from the salesman. initially he said i would have it in april this has now changed to about 2nd may. he did tell me it went in to paint last friday..... but again at this stage i had emailed him to give me an eta on delivery as their system should tell them exactly what stage of production/ delivery it is in

I only spoke with my dealer twice on phone, seen him in person 4 times and then we just emailed back and forth with updates

Mine's been reasonable so far. Luckily I'm not far from the dealers so I can pop in, and have been doing so about once every 10 days or so.

My original date (and the one that's on the paperwork) was today but unfortunately mine is still down as 'In Transit' so at the moment your guess is as good as mine as to when I'll recieve it :(

When ordering mine dealer said they would keep me updated along the way....after 3 or 4 weeks I called to ask about changing something on the order and was told it was in build. I think they should have called me just before 'lock in' to double check everything just in case, certainly would have appreciated it.
Anyway couple weeks later phoned them again for any update and would probably still be waiting for my call to be returned if I had'nt called into the showroom 2 days later! Told then that the car was due in with them on or around April 20th, this friday, and hav'nt heard anything since.

Thanks for the replies, I'm probably just mithering a bit but I do like to feel a bit of comfort from the dealer and since they are 140 miles away I probably get a bit more concerned that i'm out of sight out of mind.
The only other car i've ever bought new was a Renault and to be honest the dealer and Renault themselves were fantastic with the flow of information, was expecting the same with BMW but I suppose I got it at such a steal that the cost of a telephone call could be the tipping point for them to make a loss :D

had an update on mine yesterday saying it had been released to the carriers..... whatever that means

released to carriers....

Its been built and it is now ready to be put on a ship.

hehe yeah sales talk throws me too

kev thought you said they were gonna put it on a skip when i quickly read your post :o :D
