Hi everyone, I am a newbie, I never owned a z4 before...This coming Christmas I am have some holidays and I want to come to uk to buy the car from there and import it to Malta because I am from Malta...Poeple have told me that in Uk a lot of salt is used to clear the ice especially if its not in the southern parts...can anybody please suggest from where I should go find my z4? Any dealers you might want to suggest to me? Thanks everyone!

you have 3 main routes to buy a zed imo (probably lots more - but this would be where i would look)

autotrader.co.uk

pistonhead.co.uk

this forum

i would decide what you want

age / engine / spec / colour / interior / mileage / budget (you are on the e89 site so i guess that narrows it down)

build out a short list

that way when you come over you will sort of know what to look at

this forum always has a couple for sale - and if you post what you want, you might be surprised by how many are for sale of the forum

good time to buy - not so good to sell, grab a bargain

have fun - car buying can be a lot of fun

Hi Chris g, thanks a lot for the information and for replying back to me! I think you are right, searching is the key! I will see what I can do...I am a bit concerned about the salt problem though...any suggestions about this? Sorry for the late reply!

I wouldn't worry about the salt. The E89 is a modern car, with protective coatings on the underside of the car. Once you buy you car and get it home, give the underside a clean and you'll have nothing to worry about. A lot of us on here have cars 10+ years old, driven in the winter (with the salt) and haven't rusted yet

Thats reassuring enough mate!!! Like you already noticed I am shopping for an e89 model, my preference is white with coral red interior and the engine not less than 25, so I am even considering the 35 engine too but from what I have read this model does not come with manual gearbox but DCT only, right? Manual is too great to just forget about it! By the way, why do you think Christmas is a good time to shop for a car? Because of a good bargain during this time?

Christmas is normally a good time I'd guess as it's probably harder to sell convertibles during the cold winter months, so dealers will be more willing to get rid of them, hence beter prices. Although not sure what impact the hardtop of the E89 has on this.

Not sure whether the calendar year end has any impact on dealers willingness to negotiate.

Either way, sports cars will sell less favourably during winter. Easier to negotiate for buyers

Hi Steven, I guess you are right...My sister lives in Brighton (ub7 7aa), I will stay at her place when I get to uk, I am thinking about spending a week tops, I think this is enough time for me to search and find a good deal, no? I hope I will find something reliable not very far away from ub7 7aa...you own a z4 too mate?

car sales are generally down around the christmas time as everyone is spending money on presents so you will be able to pick up a bargain or negotiate a good discount off a dealer. you should be able to get one in a week but you could do some research over the weeks before you come over to find out how much they are selling for and possibly find one to come over and look at

Hi envy, yes I agree with you, have been looking at some for the last two months on autotrader but obviously they are continuously being sold after a couple of days or weeks that I watch them...do all types of e89 come with that centre screen that pops up? Do they all play dvds as well? In Malta I have seen an Msport z4 that instead of the computer, it just had an empty kind of compartment.

No, they only come with the screen if they have the upgraded media option, so if they have the round dial near the gear stick then they will have the pop up screen. It is a 2k option so not everyone asked for it including me

Not sure if they play DVDs but you should be able to upload movies etc via the USB

The good deals are snapped up quickly but in December car sales are virtually zero here

Just remember that whilst the cars will be at the bottom of the price curve for the year, the choice will also be less as many people will choose to tuck them away for winter and / or wait until they can get a better price in the spring. Prices actually hold better on this forum because there are a lot of 'enthusiasts' to whom time of year is less important... But e89s don't seem to come up for sale much on here yet.

If I were planning my buying tactically, I'd go shopping towards the end of the year. As Envy said, December will be a quiet month for the dealers, so go in and negotiate hard right at the end of the month. If they've got quotas to make you'll bag a deal. It's month end, quarter end and possibly financial year end so targets will need to be met.

They do play DVD's and no you can't upload movies via USB. Later cars with the right adapter will play video from iPods/iPhones.

Hi all, thanks for the replies, sorry I made a mistake regarding the post code, I wrote an incorrect code, I will call my sister to get to know what the correct one is....Paul, what do you mean exactly by a bit thin on the ground?

Its true, for example I searched autotrader for a white-red combination and I found a few but none with the navsat or with the 30 or 35 engine....and I like that centre dvd screen!!! I guess I have to forget about it then!
