Coming back to the Z4 world

Hi all,

Looking to reenter the zed world in the coming weeks. 2011/2012 i owned a 2.0l Z4 (due age and insurance couldnt get a bigger engine) snd had to reluctantly sell due to moving abroad.

Having now been back in Blighty for a couple of years im back in the market for a Z4. Im looking at a 3.0 litre, though may drop to a 2.5 for the right spec. Naturally this time of year tends to be a buyers market so keen to purchase over the coming weeks and have my eye on a couple already.

Just wondering Thoughts on a couple of areas;

Automatics - i know some will say its not a sports car unless its a manual but i will use the zed for my commute so an automatic would be nice for this. It seems they are also fairly realiable as i was a little weary of this. How do they respond when putting your foot down? Im concious that a 2004 gearbox is unlikely to have the same systems as modern day for quick changes etc. Will i still get the same performance?

Heated seats - my previous z4 has heated seats and i did love them. Many im looking at have the leather but are not heated. What do people think? Im thinking that on a coolish day the heated seats are essential to keep warm to allow you to get the roof down. Would others agree or would you not be put off by a lack of heat?

Hopefully see you all at a meet soon!

Hi & welcome back

I had a 3.0i auto on a 04 plate, and thought the gearbox was terrific, a little lag on drop down in non sport mode maybe, but for everday use, its terrific, and heated seats

Heated seats are a must for a roadster imo, as for automatic I've never driven a Zed auto but there are guys on here who love em.
Welcome back and good luck finding the right one

Welcome back. In the last twenty years of having many verts, only 1 didn't have have heated seats. I really missed them as they make a car alot more comfortable/usable in our climate. Auto box wise, the bmw boxes are pretty damn good really so no worries there really. The only thing to consider is the pre facelift cars are only 5 speed where the post cars have 6 speed. Makes a fair old difference on the motorway and to fuel economy. Obviously if your commute isnt on fast roads it's a mute point but if your using motorways etc it might be worth hunting down a post facelift car.

Love mine, auto, heated seats, sport mode, manual mode, you can be as involved as you want to be.
My last two cars have been autos and no regrets.
Nice to have the options, especially in heavy traffic.
Agreed the six speed box helps.
Did consider selling, but after looking at the cost to change and the condition of some against mine, decided no.

Thanks all, I took your advice and decided that heated seats were the way to go. Unfortunately my budget wouldnt stretch to a 6 speed auto but I have today put a deposit down on a 53 plate 3.0l roadster, its been well looked after with only a couple of very small scratches on it.

Pics to follow once i pick it up next week but the spec is:

3.0i Z4 AUTO
aero body kit
hardtop included
cruise control
auto headlights
auto wipers
Xenon headlights
cup holders
black heated electric leather seats
parking sensors (these aren't working 100% so need to do some digging on possible fixes)
clear brake/indicator lights all round

Sounds like a good purchase - 3 litre, hardtop (they cost from £700 up to £950) and cruise too

Can't grumble at your choice there  Love the auto box. Real world; it's fantastic when you floor it :D & just lovely when cruising. If the mileage is up then consider an oil & filter change. It does make a difference. There are a few recent threads on here about it.
Loved mine from the day I collected her, I'd love to have an aero body kit & sports seats though.
Heated seats.... well I don't have these in mine but I've had several cars with them & only ever switched them on when my back has played up, may be once or twice a year. TBH after 30 seconds or so I've turned them off. Hot blooded me :poke:
Parking sensors.... not in mine either & glad about that. Had them before on several cars & personally I think what a PITA they are, beeping when you're 3 feet away from where you want to be. IMHO if you cant tell where the arse end is then you shouldn't be driving it. Having said that I twatted my front nearside wheel on a kerb 2 weeks after I bought her. They'd just been refurbished too
Clear lights all round.... something I want to do
Yours sounds lovely. Look forward to seeing the pics

It sounds like you have found a good example OP.

I hope time doesn't drag too much while you are waiting to collect it!
