Comfort Access with a new key

Hi everyone,

I just got a new spare key for my new Z4. The dealer couldn't find the original spare key when I took delivery so they ordered a new one for me.
My car has comfort access option and it works great with the original key. However with the new one it doesn't seem to trigger the comfort access(ie, I can't open the door or trunk with it). Using the remote button it works fine.
I did a long drive(2 hours) yesterday with the spare key in the ignition, so it should be reasonably charged.

So do you think the new key has a problem? or is there any setting I need to set for the car to recognize the new key?

thanks

This option must relate to the key and not the car, you maybe able to program it using the programming options in the car, or maybe the dealer will need to do it.

But I would say they lost the key and provided a new one so it's their problem and get them to sort.

The dealer will need to code the key for all the options you want it to perform.

Ask them for a print out of the car and key specific options relative to your year and model then just get them to code what you want.

It's everything from seat adjustment on opening to audio levels, lock on drive off, 2 presses to open passenger door, etc. etc. Lots to code and choose on the new key.

As SRhutch says this should be free

thanks for the info guys.

I'll bring it back to the dealer then. I'm sure they will do it free of charge. I was just wondering if its some quick on/off switch I can do it myself.

I do not think you need to go to the dealer. You just have to tick the various options in the idrive as they are set for each key.

thats what I thought as per my earlier post, I know there are features you can program yourself with newer models, even if they dont have idrive.

Just an update, in case anyone cares.
Looks like this can't be done by user. The head sales just called me to follow up with my purchase,
I mentioned this to him and he said I need to bring it back to the dealer.
He said it should be quick and he'll give a loaner car if they're busy and can't do it quickly

If you have Idrive there is a box to tick for comfort access and it works on my car for each key.

I realise this is an old thread now but, in order to help anyone who refers to it in the future, I understood that the ignition key for Comfort Access and the regular key are different. They look similar but the Comfort Access key has a renewable battery while the regular key is rechargeable. Presumably only the Comfort Access key has the necessary transmitter/receiver to operate the system.

Up to 4 regular keys can be configured to operate the z4 at any one time but only 2 Comfort Access keys. I presume you can get up to 2 replacement regular keys to supplement the maximum 2 Comfort Access keys if your car is equipped with the system so I also presume that aurabbit was either supplied with a regular replacement instead of a Comfort Access one or, as has been suggested, the Comfort Access replacement needed to be 'paired' to the car.

The latter does seem a bit of a fundamental omission for any dealer to make so I suspect they may have realised they ordered they wrong type of key and switched them to cover their error.
