Comfort access not working

Only had the car a few days and found the first fault. :D
I had a look though the VIN decoder and was surprised to find I have comfort access fitted which is confirmed by the replacable key fob battery and groves on the door handles. Problem is it doesn't work. The key fobs both work and the roof opens with the key.
I can also try and start the without the key in the slot but get a warning about the key not being detected.
Is there any way of re syncing the keys or anything simple?
I'm not that fussed about it so I'm not looking at taking it into a dealer anytime soon.

On my M, I coded it out as that is the surest way of losing the car. Perhaps the previous owner thought the same?

Posssibly, where I used to live keyless BMW's were being stolen every single night. How did you code it out?

Mine was in the i-drive. I could de-spec it on the Porsche so there is no sign of it there, and on the VW I could switch it off in the menu

You’ll need a decent BMW specific code reader to work it out…there are 3 specific aerials for CA..somebody may have disconnected them, one or more may have failed etc..if somebody has messed with the audio system / cigar lighter could have disturbed them..

Doubt it’s been coded out..

Here you go..enjoy..note issue on key not found..

Interference from Pylons.

Bloddy hell - I remember them from Battlestar Gallactica, didn't know they could mess up comfort access!

I suspect it's going to be the key itself rather than vehicle as it is lookingfor a key when I try and start it keyless. Are there any OBD apps that would be able to determine what the issue is or does it have to be BMW specific?

You need a reader that supports bmw extended error messages..such as Bimmergeeks Protool or BMW’s ISTA..or maybe some if the more expensive high end dedicated devices ..

Does the key have a fresh battery..

If the key opens the doors then it should start the car..

I assume if the key is in the holder it starts ?

Yes the key unlocks, locks and opens the roof. It also starts perfectly if the key is in the slot.

Doesn’t seem to be the key..what does the other key do?

Looks like one or more disconnected aerials but without the fault code reader pissing in the dark

The bimmergeeks app isn't cheap.
I keep seeing carly coming up. Would that work?

AFAIK Carly is a rental model..Protool is a one of purchase..Protool is vastly more competent than Carly…

This area is very complex…if you’re not wiling / able to invest in the requisite tools maybe it’s time to ignore this / move on…
