Coloured Seat Treatments

My drivers seat is a bit shabby - I have the ivory white interior and a fair few marks/creases in the side bolster and on the seat cushion.

A chap posted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago with the same interior, including before (which looked identical to mine) and after shot - pretty amazing results.

He used 'Colourlock' which seems to be a popular option - a kit can be bought which includes a cleaner, the coloured dye itself and a conditioner, for around the £60 mark (though confusingly this option doesn't seem to be offered on the official UK distributor website, only on Ebay).

Before I fork out this not inconsiderable amount of money, does anyone have any feedback on Colourlock or altnerative products?
 
On Ivory White, use Liquid Leather 'Scuff Master'.
Clean it with Liquid Leather's own Conditioner, which keeps the leather soft and floats the dirt off.
Don't be tempted to 'strip' white/pale leathers before treating.

(I've also done a whole sofa with Scuff Master in a colour the factory made from a swatch I sent them.)
 
If its not on the manufacturers website I would call them to check its anutenticity.
On dark seats, black etc you can use shoe polish, works a treat :thumbsup:

I've seen this one recommended in a few places - will see what the pricing is like.

Having checked a few Facebook posts I also see 'Theleatherclinic' mentioned, on Ebay.

It's legit I think, the Ebay shop seems to be one official outlet - just a confusing range of products. The 'kit' I mention was there a few days ago, now seems to be missing. Needs a bit of proper browsing time rather than a quick look :)

I've used Liquid Leather for 5 years & 50,000 miles on a 911 Graphite (pale grey) 'extended leather' interior and 3 years+ & 45,000 miles on an E89 Ivory White interior.

It's excellent on leather and the bits that pretend to be leather, but not on Alcantara.

(I had 3 cushions of a 'designer' Danish leather sofa re-covered. The professional company who did it got their knickers in a twist and, although doing a very good job - at £500 it needed to be - they got the colour wrong. So, I cut a very small swatch off a new cushion and sent it to Liquid Leather for a litre of 'Scuff Master'. The match was perfect. I then treated the whole of the rest of the sofa. Outcome? Well, the wife approves.)

How do you ensure you get the colour to match the original BMW?

No, both of those sets of photos was from using 'Colourlock' - the chap who posted on Facebook sent his VIN to Colourlock and was sent the appropriate colour.
 
I bought leather cleaner and conditioner from the furniture clinic. The cleaner didn't really do much. I found out later that using Woolite mixed 1 part to around 6 part water did a much better job and much cheaper too. I mixed it up in a bottle sprayed it on the seats and used a toothbrush to scrub gently and then a microfibre to wipe away the excess liquid. The furniture clinic sent me some coral red dye for the small area of wear on the drivers bolster but I have yet to use it. Might do it this week I think.

I don't have any direct experience with colour lock but have heard good things about them and they seem to have a good reputation. I believe you can also take your car to them and they will refurb the leather for you.
 
I have to keep touching up my cars seat bolster which is Kansas beige.
I have just realised my living room walls are the same colour.
I bet it matches the seats.

Those after pics look a bit photo shopped.

I have Coral Red seats in mine with a bit of wear on the drivers side bolster,I will be interested to see what you think of the colour match.

Hopefully I will try and do it this week. I'll post some before and after shots so you can see what its like.
 
Liquid leather will match any colour if you send them a sample (I got mine from a bit dangling off the rear of the underside of the seat) it took them less than a week to send it, I bought a kit with cleaner and conditioner for about £40 really happy with the result
 
I had a Jaguar 'professionally Connolly-ised', which was a waste of time & money. It did teach me, though, that seats must be kept conditioned.
 
Quite amusing reading through post on various forums for an hour or so, many dating back up to 10 years etc. Pattern is:

1) Someone asks for a recommendation (like me!)
2) Someone recommends a product
3) 10 people say that product is rubbish and recommend alternatives. At least one poster works for one of the alternative brands :D
4) More people come along and say they've been using the first product for 60 years on 37 different cars and they'd never use another

Anyway, liquid leather scuffmaster does seem to get fairly universal approval, so I've bought the touch up kit here:

The website then gave me another 10% off, so total cost is £37.57.

Mine has the same sort of wear as yours.The Red looks a bit on the light side were you have touched it up.Are you happy with it?
